A headgasket itself should last a long time. 2 years is a short life. To go again so soon gives me the idea of another problem causing it to go.
Overheating is one idea, air in the cooling system lots of things could be involved.

You should get the car checked out for contributing factors not just book it in for a new gasket alone.
Prvided that the head gasket is fitted correctly it should last the until major work is required on the engine or the cylinder head ( New Cam Shaft ) or damaged valves.I would suggest the the head was not correctly tightened or the head and cylinder block requires skimming. This is a costly exersise

As long as you renew your coolant when you are supposed to, usually 2-3 years, and keep an eye on the level, you shouldn't ever have to change your head gasket, normally its internal corrosion or a cooked engine resulting in a warped head that causes this to blow, Rovers come with knackered head gaskets as standard, but all other cars it is usually a combination of what I have said.
