He who must do as he is told has taken his dad to the Royal Albert Hall tonight and I couldn't be bothered cooking for one. It's such a faff.

Anyone agree?

Yes, if I'm on my own I just have a sandwich or beans on toast

I couldn't even be bothered with that, elliemay.  I never used to eat after lunchtime when I lived on my own.

I do agree, Lady. I cook for us every day, but when I am alone in France I find it difficult to whip up the enthusiasm.

Since my husband died 4 years ago I find my eating arragements have changed, I often have 'breakfast' after 11am and then have nothing until late afternoon, or I have an earlier breakfast if I have to go out, a banana at lunchtime  then either a small meal or nothing!

Not just me then.

Little one wolfed down his fish pie and his apricot yoghurt, bless him

King prawns and seafood sauce with one roll.

As I'm always on my own, it's tempting to never bother with cooking at all but I still knock a few basic meals up quite often.

Tonight was about as simple as it gets:
I defrosted 80g of beef mince, browned it in a frying pan, added in  quarter of a can of baked beans, half a cup of gravy and some hot chilli powder.  After simmering and stirring it for 15 minutes, I served it in a bowl (using a spoon to eat it) with a slice of bread.

I then warmed a couple of Scotch pancakes in the microwave, topped them up with vanilla ice cream and poured honey over them.

Yummy!

Beans on toast for me!

You know how to live Chris, sounds quite edible.

Thanks, David.

That main course meal costs no more than about 70p in total but it's surprisingly tasty!

You're very creative, Chris.

That sounds very nice, David. I probably could have found some prawns and a roll if I'd looked.

The little one loves his beans, Atheist, either on toast or a jacket.

Hi LCG, if I'm on my own, I can't be bothered to cook. I will have a roll, with whatever filling I have & pkt crisp. Sometimes with a wine 😀

Question Author

Alas, I have no wine, Patsy!  I have gin, whisky and brandy, but I have no wine :-(

I'll probably just have a Horlicks before bed.

Wise decision 😀
