For your information: As promised, on behalf of members of The AnswerBank, I have paid tribute to this brave man in his home town of Carcassonne, southern France. His final resting place is unlisted (possibly for good reason) and so I laid flowers on the altar steps of the Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus, and I lit a candle there in his memory.

Situated within the walls of the ancient city, this magnificent building dates from at least the 10th century and is a national monument. Quite fitting I thought.
