Remember a couple of years ago when that lovely old bigot Mel Gibson raged at the traffic cops about Jews being responsible for all the world's wars (this was before he suggested that a bunch of 'n*ggers rape his ex-girlfriend')

Well, now John Galliano has been accused of hurling antisemitic abuse at fellow diners in a restaurant in France.

Now, Mr Galliano hasn't been found guilty yet, but here's the question - what IS it that people have against Jews? Prior to turning their attentions to Muslims, the BNP were thoroughly anti-Jew...but WHY?

Of all the world's people, haven't the Jews been through enough already? So why the rise in antisemitic attacks (see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8499450.
stm)

Is it because people are getting bored slating Muslims? I thought it was supposed to be gays next! How comes Jews have queue-jumped.

That is an interesting question.
Is there anti-Semitism and if so why and how prevalent is it?

I tried to get a debate going some months ago, but it was reported and the thread withdrawn.

I look forward to some discussions.
I'm strongly anti-Israeli but not anti Jewish. Though when I post on the topic of Israel I'm accused of being a bigot.
Apart from extremists in Israel, I have no problem with Jews, similarly with Muslims, with the exception of extremists, I have no issues. Is the Jewish thing not something to do with them them being responsible for killing Jesus or something?
Don't confuse politics with religion...although both contentious issues....
believe me when I say to you I am NOT antisemitic ( I'm not really anti anybody) But as you've asked the question do you think it could be anything to do with the fact that being well supported by the U.S the (Jewish) Israelies think that they can get away with anything they want to do, like stealing as much land as they want from the Palestinians & nobody seems to raise any objections, how long is this going on for ? They should be forced to hand all the land back that they have illegally nicked & pay compensation to the legal occupants Ron.
sandy.......LOL.....I know.....thin line to tread.

I have two friends, they are both Jewish and Gay, in fact I had breakfast with them this morning, but I still cannot answer the question "Am I anti-Jew?

Any forthright and honest discussion on this topic is frowned upon by many, and certainly not encouraged by AB.

I believe it's easily possible to mount an argument based on Isreal's actions (say) on the West Bank, or it's treatment of the Palestinians without actually being anti-Semitic, but Now that you say that I wander whether those who hate Jews use that as an excuse?

The Palestine thing ISA knotty one - but I have a sneaking suspicion that those who wrapped bacon around the doors of that synogogue, and shout racist remarks at Jews on the street aren't really up to speed on the situation in the Middle East...

Furthermore, antisemetism has been going on for donkeys years - and I literally can't work out where it started!
We all know the canards. I hope anybody sensible could separate them from the facts about Israel's disgraceful behaviour in Palestine.
I don`t think anti-semitism is anything to do with Israel. It has been going on for centuries. Jews have been persecuted in many parts of the world that they have migrated to. I don`t know why. They were traditionally tradespeople and from that they prospered. Maybe people felt threatened by that. I also wonder why is someone is racist against black people, Muslims etc they are called Racists but when they are racist against Jews they are Anti-semitic
you may feel angry re Israel/Palestine, but does that make it okay to hurl abuse at someone in a restaurant in Paris?
Absolutely not.

That's an excellent point that vie never really considered. I assume 'anti-semite' had a very specific meaning, a word which pre-dates 'racist', which I believe only came about in the latter part of the 20th century.
My views?.........mainly irrational, but they are just mine and do not apply to all Jews.

For hundreds of years there have been pockets of Jews in all countries around the world and in isolation or in small "pockets" perfectly normal, integrated and acceptable, but when they coalesce, there seems to be a change in their character. They become arrogant, noisy, tending to exclude other races from whatever is going on. For example...I was on a cruise on which there were Jews and at first they were quiet, respectable and polite, but as the cruise continued, they slowly formed a large table at dinner, were noisy and commandeered in an arrogant way the whole of the dining room.....................yes..this could have happened to any group of people.

Golf clubs are wary of admitting Jews as they fear of them "taking over".......if you see what I mean?

There is an arrogance and success that many people resent and many people feel that in this, Jews are their own worst enemies.

As a medical student, I had a flat in Stamford Hill London (rented it actually) and on a Friday night, lit the candles for the Jews in the flat below, so I lived amongst the Jews with no problems.

My friend who is German tells me that there is still a marked anti-Semitism in Germany, but it is suppressed by the media.

Does this help?

Am I anti-Semitic?.

Sqad I've had exactly the same experience on a cruise ship!
BTW I know Galliano and have never, ever, known him be anti-semitic.
I have heard that Jewish people consider themselves God`s chosen people. I don`t know if that is true. If it is, that obviously wouldn`t go down well in some quarters. I haven`t had any experience of them grouping together as such but I think they have always favoured their own in business.
I would add that I have always found a difference between the Israelis and Jews that have migrated to other parts of the world.
I wouldnt ask,SP1814,Whenever ive argued against anti-semitism on this site i get cried down by the supposedly anti-anti semites...or should i use the word "nazi" against them...they know who they are ,dont you Sandyroe.....
"Whenever I've argued against anti-Semitism on this site"

The only post I've seen of yours, WShee9, that mentioned anti-Semitism, didn't argue against it - it simply accused everyone who disagreed with the politics of the Israeli government of anti-Semitism.
