The Comfort Of Prayer To Jesus Christ

The last seven years have not been without high points in my life, for example, real joy at having five grandchildren, looking at how my own childrens lives have developed etc etc.
However, there have been very many negatives over the same period, that have affected me deeply, and continue to do so.
I find that especially when I am at my lowest, I find real comfort in prayer to Jesus Christ, and I am always left with the feeling that I am not facing my problems alone.
I am not presenting this as any kind of evidence that the objective scientist demands as proof for the existence of God, but simply presenting my own experiences for your consideration.
My questions are; 1) Is there anybody else here who also prays? 2) Do you find comfort in your prayer as I do?
Other comments from ABers of all pursuasions are of course, as always, most welcome.

I am not remotely religious but have admiration for people who can believe in something which has no proof other than a book written long after the supposed events occured. p.s. I do lead a christian(small c)life
That is not comfort wyzard, that is avoiding whatever problem you have. When the hangover wears off you will still have problems!

1) Is there anybody else here who also prays? - Yes, on a daily basis

2) Do you find comfort in your prayer as I do? - I might sound crazy and some'd say it's wishful thinking, but I find much peace and tranquillity in prayers. And my prayers are usually answered.
Hello Theland, everybody has highs and lows in their lives. But the thing with being a
christian is to carry on believing and have faith even when the times are tough. God
can make us stronger by the daily trials we face. If everything was easy what would be the point of the cross? Jesus wants us to believe in him through the tears and smiles.
That seems to indicate that your prayers are not selfish society.

Once, facing what I thought was the end on an Alpine climb I felt more at peace than at any other time. I didn't feel the need for prayer, not because of being an agnostic but because everything dropped into perspective
I am absolutely sure that Jesus stopped being aware of anything 2000 years ago, there is no heaven and no God. so my viewpoint is that you are actually making yourself feel better, no outside entity involved.

I'm not knocking what you do and I actually look upon it as some kind of meditation technique albeit one based on fiction and I promise I not being patronising here but I am happy for you and sometimes I wish I could be comforted by such a simple misconception.

If it makes you feel happy then go with it, but to me it is a sign of a weak individual who needs the comforts of childhood to deal with the real world.
I'm afraid that Il_billym is spot on.
Biblebub, are you saying prayers equates to childishness?
i pray daily, and i am a great believer that praying works,
I wonder if "weak" isn't rather a pejorative term to describe folk who haven't been able to benefit from the kind of education and grounding in logic which some of us take for granted.
Unquestioning belief in your mum and dad (and implicitly that they protect you from the nastiness that resides within rest of the world), belief in fairy stories, belief in the tooth fairy, etc. Belief that your life is not totally within your own control, there's someone/something else beyond your control who will provide protection and guidance in your interaction with the rest of the world.
Could you get onto Andy Murray's case Anne.
Out of curiosity, for those of you who pray on a daily basis what do you pray for/about. I can understand people praying at low points in their life but if things are going ok, what do you pray for/about. (Obviously I am not religious so I hope I haven't offended anyone.)
hi seadogg, i will pray for him. i hope he wins , he does deserve it, the reason you didnt feel the need to pray when you were in trouble, was because you were suffering from lack of o2, (anoxia).. :)
I pray every day. During difficulties or prosperity. But I only pray to one God who created all. I don’t pray to Jesus (pbuh) or Muhammad (pbuh) as they both forbade people from doing that. I have no doubt whatsoever that prayers are answered. However few prayers are answered but not exactly as we would have liked but later on you find that the outcome was the best possible.

Why pray? Few people ask. I believe it is food for soul. Human are made up of two things body and soul. As our body can’t survive without material food, same way our soul does not feel at ease without food that is needed for its nourishment. And that food is prayer. Otherwise why is it that people now a days have everything but still have no peace of mind?
Hi Keyplus - sorry to be dim, but what would you say constitutes praying? Is it just giving thanks for things in general, is it asking for things for yourself/others/everyone. Is it reciting religious wording/passages/wordless meditation? I suppose what I am asking is what is praying, how do you do it.
