Richard Dawkins - Faith School Menace?

Did anyone else see this on Wednesday night? One in three of our schools are now faith schools funded by the tax payer, but in the area of religious education not only do some of them teach the subject for up to four times longer each week than other schools, they are left to do their own thing and have their own regulators. Additionally, the Islamic school taught creationism and a version of evolution but left the students to make up their own minds on which was true. Needless to say when asked all, without exception, said they believed the Koran‘s version - and alarmingly their Science teacher said the same. Can you imagine the ‘make your own mind up' scenario being applied to any other subject - and that being acceptable to any school that cares about the standard of education it offers, or more particularly to a government that sets a national curriculum? Religion demands that we close our eyes to its failings - and because it demands it, we do it regardless of the effect it has on future generations.

I'm willing to bet it won't be (e).

Back to the subject. In addition to the non-belief in evolution, the students also said that mountains are pegs that hold the earth down (as per the Koran), and since their science teacher made no effort to correct them, I have to wonder which of the many other errors contained within the Koran are also being taught. I believe we have a moral duty to our children to deny religion special status and to subject these institutions to the same regulations that apply to all other schools.
////What on earth are you talking about Keyplus?///

If you are not sure what I am talking about then why are you wasting your time? In reality you are doing the same as Naomi (and sometime Wyz or Wiz) she says that my posts are nonsensical, baseless, stupid, makes no sense, blah blah blah but guess what? She still finds it difficult to ignore my posts. When I feel someone does not make sense then I just ignore them. So in other words she (or anyone else) in that regard is finding my posts challenging. So keep going.

As for putting words in my mouth about Naomi being unfit mother and so on. I did not say anything like that its you who is saying. As a matter of fact she has mentioned so many times that she is worried about the future of my kids. “ANY THOUGHT ABOUT THAT”? or you are just one way traffic?
Naomi – what did you find wrong in mountains being pegs? Give me any reason and I will give you scientifically proved reason to back that up. After all you MAY believe what scientists say. But my previous experiences have shown that you do not agree with even best known scientists when they say something which proves you wrong. But still I will have a go because that is what I am here for.

Birdie, I was right. It wasn't (e) - and I still have no idea what he's babbling about.

Keyplus, are you seriously suggesting the Koran is right in saying that Allah made mountains to peg the earth down to prevent earthquakes shaking it? In that case I have to ask why earthquakes continue to shake the earth?

//But my previous experiences have shown that you do not agree with even best known scientists when they say something which proves you wrong.//

Yet another lie. Evidence please.
I went to a faith school in the 1950's.........this was before atheism and agnosticism were fashionable.
It was pretty fashionable 100-150 years ago.

A lot of "Humanist" societies were founded around then as was the rationalist press association.
I was a boarder in convent education, brain-washed (nicely) thoughout and have only questioned my belief of the bible for my last ageing years. However, I would not entertain a replacement faith or theology.

That is the reason I always say that do not try to be the expert of something you have no clue about.

In that case I have to ask you where exactly Quran says that Allah made mountains to peg the earth....? As you are claiming that then let me know where is it, lets see if you can find a verse in whole Quran which claims to say what you are saying? And may be Wyz or Wiz can help you too.

Haaa! I know Wiz. I could practically hear you chuckling from here. :o)

Keyplus, now you really are becoming confused.

//Naomi - what did you find wrong in mountains being pegs? Give me any reason and I will give you scientifically proved reason to back that up.//

//In that case I have to ask you where exactly Quran says that Allah made mountains to peg the earth....//

So which is it to be? Are you going to give me a scientific reason to back up the claim that Allah made mountains to peg the earth, or have you changed your mind because you're not sure the Koranic statements exist? (Incidentally, they do).

We placed firmly embedded mountains on the earth, so it would not move under them… (Qur'an, 21:31)

Have We not made the earth as a bed and the mountains its pegs? (Qur'an, 78:6-7)

Oh, and don't tell me this doesn't mean what it says. I've read the alternative interpretations from your scholars who try without success to worm out of every scientific error the Koran contains, and as usual they fail miserably.

Now let's give it a rest. We know from tedious experience that your book does not stand up to scrutiny because quite simply it is wrong.

No, it definitely isn't you. ;o)

No, of course not. If he did he'd have to concede that the Koran is not infallible and that would be unthinkable, so he just disappeared as usual.

(By the way,I'll get around to 'Wyz' eventually, but old habits die hard and all that). ;o)

Noami – Its not me who is confused, actually you are. You made two statements and here they are.

1 – First one is that Allah made mountains as pegs.

And I said that I agree and so does Science and rest assure I will give you scientific evidence once we agree upon what your exact statement is.

2 – Second one you said ////Keyplus, are you seriously suggesting the Koran is right in saying that Allah made mountains to peg the earth down to prevent earthquakes shaking it?

In response to that I said that where exactly in Quran it says that? If you can’t read the difference between your own pots then let me help you.
Quran says that mountains are like pegs but nowhere Quran says that it prevents from EARTHQUAKE.

Before giving you more information now again I would leave you to see what you said and compare that with what I said and then prove me wrong and show me where Quran says that mountains being pegs stop EARTHQUAKE? There you go and have another go.
Let me tell you one more thing. Look into the Quran if you need answers and not on anti Islamic websites. They do not know what they are talking about and of course they pass that onto people who rely on them.
