Nicholas Breakspear (aka Adrian IV) was a British pope. Think that was in the 1100s though.
Yes there was one once - I forgot who I think it may have been Adrian - but it was about 400 years ago
Beat me to it Barmaid
Adrian IV is the only Briton ever to hold the papal title.

It is unlikely that we will have a British one any time soon, but the only ones who come even close enough to the upper echelons to being considered would be Cormac Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor (England and Wales) and Keith Michael Patrick O'Brien (Scotland)

But even they are mere Cardinal Priests rather than Cardinal Bishops. The next nearest would be Sen Baptist Cardinal Brady who is the current Cardinal Archbishop of Armagh.
Tony Blair is now a catholic and has also been responsible for many hundreds of thousands of deaths, so he would be an ideal candidate.
Chubby Brown might increase the numbers in the congregation.
Adrian was technically English, I suppose, as there wasn't a Britain at the time and the Roman name Britannia had fallen out of usage. Ray Winstone might look the part until he opened his mouth.
He was born a Saxon in about 1100 in Hertfordshire, the same year Henry I became King of England.

He was the 4th son of Willy the Conk, so I would say that England was very much in existence...?
