If YOUR holy book told you to kill people,
Would you?

Bet you wouldnt?
So why defend a book that does?
Probably because you havnt read it......

Guns don't kill people, readers of Bibles and Qurans do.

Thanks Atheist. My question was directed at Nailit. It will be enlightening to read his answer.
Maggiebee, 11:02 Sun, oddly enough that sounds strangely familiar too. I could have sworn you've been saying that for years.
the Flood - nonsense.
Why nonsense?
Atheist, that's a blog written by someone with his political knickers in a knot. There are lunatics in every walk of life but the bottom line is the Bible does not encourage the faithful to kill strangers. Your man needs to learn about Judaism.
Why nonsense? because it posits the proposal that people who die in floods, famines & pestilence are all being murdered by God. Who in their right mind believes that ?
Khandro, Where on earth did you get that from? It postulates nothing of the sort. The bible tells you that God regretted creating man. In order to remedy his mistake he decided to flood the earth and kill everyone on it apart from Noah and his family. That's what it says. God purposefully killed thousands - in fact millions.
Khandro - // Why nonsense? because it posits the proposal that people who die in floods, famines & pestilence are all being murdered by God. Who in their right mind believes that ? //

Well, since you constantly tell us that God is allmightly and omnipotent and rules over everything in heaven and on earth, then clearly you believe it.

Whether or not that belief speaks to the rightness of your mind is a subject for a separate discussion.
\\ Why nonsense? because it posits the proposal that people who die in floods, famines & pestilence are all being murdered by God. Who in their right mind believes that ? //
I think that's the greatest leap of faith I've ever read.
Naomi: as there is no scientific evidence whatsoever that the world was flooded, I ignore it as fiction, an allegory, just like the garden of Eden, but not metaphorically irrelevant.
Khandro, oh I see. It’s among the many unsavoury bits of the Bible you choose to reject. Whether or not scientific evidence exists for the flood really is debatable but there’s no evidence of any sort for the existence of God. What a hypocrite you are.
I'm not here to prove the existence of God, I'm here to DISPROVE the intentional murder of people BY God.

And btw, I don't want you to give evidence to prove that there is NO God, so why do you continually demand that I give you proof that there is?
I haven’t demanded anything. I’ve told you what the Bible says - the book you set such store by. Well … the bits that suit you at least.
\\ I'm not here to prove the existence of God, I'm here to DISPROVE the intentional murder of people BY God.//
How have you done that? Saying that the relevant passage in the Bible is fiction and allegorical is not proof of anything.

What? By saying that most of the Old Testament is myth?
Not left with much to work on....
Most of the Old Testament is God killing people.

Believers should read it someday!
(Along with its contradictory command to not kill)

Khandro, the OP is nothing to do with God being the perp, it's to do with the holy book inciting you to kill.
I think the level of this discussion (if I dare call it that) is best summed up by the award of the best answer.
There is no discussion with you, Khandro, because your offerings are not your genuine views - they’re your manufactured preferences and that’s disingenuous.
"manufactured" now there's an interesting word.
And an accurate one. Your credibility rating in this discussion scores a big fat zero.
