If this young guy posing as a Christian was to actually read his Bible he wouldnt be asking the question in the first place. Christ makes it very clear- "There is none good but one, that is, God." Mark 10

Yes, I am aware there are bogus Wiki pages.

I am not an atheist but I know many wonderful people who are - they enrich my life.
One of the last times I visited a pub, (gosh that seems such a long time ago), I had a pint with one of my former apprentices, and the subject of God came up. He was quite shocked when I told him I believed in God and followed the teachings of Jesus Christ. He smirked thinking I was joking. Then was incredulous at my belief.
Yes, he was typical of the many many atheists I have known.
There is no such thing as a "typical atheist " any more than you would sanction the notion of a "typical Christian ".

Your friend's absence of respect and manners is due to his upbringing, not his atheism.
Oh no not I'll mannered. Just didn't know how to react. A bit shocked.
He was probably incredulous because he’d assumed you were more rational, Theland. I find it hard to believe that intelligent people don’t see the flaws in religion.
I find it hard to believe that intelligent people go for a universe from nothing, life from inert chemicals, and the ridiculous so called theory of evolution.
Still, it takes all sorts .........
Intelligent people don’t attribute anything to something for which there is no
evidence.
Precisely.
Theland - // Oh no not I'll mannered. Just didn't know how to react. A bit shocked. //

'Smirking' and 'Being Incredulous' as you put it, are examples of simple bad manners.

I remember dining on a cruise where we were seated with a couple, the man of whom advised me that anyone considering voting to leave the EU was obviously an idiot, and did not deserve a vote.

I did not smirk, and I was not incredulous, because I possess good manners.

It's not difficult to hide an adverse reaction if you possess the basic courtesy to do so.
I do get the impression that this chap has been chosen to put over a script, either because he is a professional actor or just simply a priest with presentation skills. His arguments are puerile and aimed at intellectually challenged people. He comes across as patronising people who have lived longer and thought harder about life's issues. Not impressed.
I mean, if a kid like that turned up at your front door offering advice on how to prepare for your old age, would you believe him? His holy robes are very clean and smart, not like any old priest that I've ever met. His presentation is very professional, but...
I’m still wondering how deep the religionist has dug compared to the atheist. I know only a very few people of religion who have made a concerted effort to read the whole bible and yet they presume to tell us they know better. How does that work?
naomi - // I know only a very few people of religion who have made a concerted effort to read the whole bible and yet they presume to tell us they know better. How does that work? //

That also assumes that reading and inderstanding are the same thing.

I could read a book about the workings of the internal combustion engine, but I doubt I could say I had understood it afterwards.
I doubt it too.
Of course Naomi, I can see where you are coming from - you claim to have read the Koran, but from evidence on here, I am not at all sure that you have understood it.
Sorry to hear your worries mount.
Naomi - 'worries'?

What are you talking about?
I’m talking about your fixation for repeatedly pontificating upon my posts on this subject despite having no personal yardstick by which to assess their accuracy and, hence, offer an informed and valid opinion.

That particular restriction applies to all of us about anything we post - including you.

And you think I am 'worried' by it?

Hahahahahahahahahha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
