How patronising? He’s given his life to religion. What life? He only looks about 12! He wants atheists to ask questions that the religious have never thought to answer. Hasn’t he noticed that atheists ask questions that the religious can’t - or won’t - answer?

Additionally, he talks about his ‘founder’. I’d hazard an educated guess that he’s thinking of the wrong bloke.
Theland, //the priest was inviting atheists to dig deeper//

That assumes they don't. Why would you - or he - assume that?
naomi - // How patronising? He’s given his life to religion. What life? He only looks about 12! //

That beggars the assumption that you only learn important lessons in life by reaching a certain age, and I personally don't believe that to be true.

There are people who can and have lived an entire lifetime and learfned absolutely nothing whatsoever about themsevles, or the people and the world around them.

Similarly, there are people who, through experiences at a young age, can learn far more about the dark side of existance than anyone could reasonably expect one mind to undergo and still remain sane.

I thought his message was devoid of the Christian superiority default - I've got something you need, which lessens you in my eyes and allowes me to patronise and pity you simultaniously.

As a 'professional' Christian, it's his job to read and explore thought and opinion, that's his job.

I don;t have time for that, I never have, and never will, mainly because it simply doesn;t interest me in the way it does him, for obvious reasons.

So no, I won't be'exploring' the arguments of either side - I get quite eough of that on here!

But I am a good person and I know I am, and I am the only person I have to convince, so I am fine with being a 'good atheist'.

Although saying that infers that I think about it at all, which I don't.

Having posted this, I am back to preparing a Talk on The Beatles, and dealing with how Christians vented their violent tempers on a pop star who simply spoke carelessly, and was crucified (pun intended) for it.
"Are You A Good Atheist" - one of the best me old china!
Naomi, I would assume that the majority of atheists do not dig deeper, by virtue of the fact I have known hundreds of them over my lifetime, and virtually none of them give a hoot.
Theland, how much less do they dig than most people of religion?
//That beggars the assumption that you only learn important lessons in life by reaching a certain age, and I personally don't believe that to be true.//

Except for Great Thunberg. Obviously:-)
15:43, theland, they don't give a hoot about religion, obviously. As it makes no difference to them.
Not having a belief in something made up... doesn't group everyone together.
Theland - // Naomi, I would assume that the majority of atheists do not dig deeper, by virtue of the fact I have known hundreds of them over my lifetime, and virtually none of them give a hoot. //

I would agree entirely.

One of the many things that vexes me about fervents is their apparent obsession with shoring up their beliefs by reading as much as possible written by other people who think the same as they do - a sort of safety in numbers security blanket.

Atheists are delighted to exist in spendid isolation - not caring frees up masses of spare time to do far more useful things, which is why when two atheists meet, if the subject ever comes up, the dicussion lasts a matter of seconds.

Why bother questioning something you don't think, or care about?
AH. You don’t ideal for all atheists. I care.

If you don’t think it care about this subject why do you so regularly argue in this section?
Ideal = speak. Predictive text - although how it decided that is anyone’s guess.
naomi - // AH. You don’t ideal for all atheists. I care.

If you don’t think it care about this subject why do you so regularly argue in this section? //

Not sure your first sentence makes any sense, but as far as your question, why do I argue in this section?

Because I choose to - and that's the only reason you need.

I don't actually need to offer a reason at all, but let's try and be polite.
Naomi - // Not sure your first sentence makes any sense ... //

We cross-posted, thank you for clarifying.

Of courseI don't speak for all atheists, I am mystified as you why you would imagine that I think I do.

Is it because you constantly pronounce about the attitudes and intentions of the entire Islamic faith - as though you know all of them, and what they think?

And therefore you think I do it about atheists?

I don't.
you don't need to be religious to have morals, standards and a code of conduct and if you are religious it does not mean you automatically have any of those things. End of.
what i always find remarkable is that all religious people are virtually atheists anyway. I think all gods are non existent they think all gods but one are non existent.
TTT - // what i always find remarkable is that all religious people are virtually atheists anyway. I think all gods are non existent they think all gods but one are non existent. //

I'm not sure that works - to be an atheist you obviously believe in no gods, but to be religious only requires you to believe in one.
AH, I suggest you revisit your post at 15.52 where you declared that atheists exist in splendid isolation not caring .,.
naomi - // AH, I suggest you revisit your post at 15.52 where you declared that atheists exist in splendid isolation not caring .,. //

I'll just file that with the rest of your pointless personal nitpicking digging nonsense - which means it will be ignored.
He’s no more a catholic priest Than I am. Just happens to be young, handsome, articulate, word perfect. An actor .
