The Bible also permits rape. It isn't Islam that is the problem per se but the entire suite of hideous Abrahamic faiths.

Khandro - // Khandro, there are several Christian versions of the bible. //

Heck, even a dyed-in-the-wool atheist like me knows that!

Do try to keep up!!!
Well someone must be letting them, because rape happens.
To be going on with, spathi, here’s a brief description of some of the problems that may arise when parallel legal systems attempt to deal with the issues of marriage and divorce. In the extreme in can lead to participants indulging in bigamy. It is particularly pertinent in the sort of matters I described that “Sharia Courts” deal with. Alas I cannot provide you with a link as it is from a restricted intranet so you’ll have to take my word that it’s genuine. Sufficient to say it is among the guidance given to judges:
=============
Marriage & Divorce

A civil marriage or partnership must take place at a registry office or venue approved by the local authority. Whilst a religious marriage may take place in a church, mosque, temple or other place of worship, the relationship will not be legally recognised unless the place of worship is either Anglican or registered by the Registrar General for marriage. Divorce is similarly only legally recognised if it complies with legislation.

There are different cultural approaches to divorce:

• There are many different views on the acceptability of divorce in different cultures.
• In some religions, a woman cannot get a religious divorce unless her husband agrees. Therefore, although a woman might be able to get a civil divorce under the law in England and Wales, if her husband refuses a religious divorce, in practical terms she cannot remarry in her community.
• An opposite difficulty may occur where a divorce is granted by the religious authorities, but has not been effected under civil law. The individuals might remarry under religious law, believing they are free to do so. This could lead to a situation where, eg, a man is married to one women under civil law and another under religious law. This can cause complexities regarding the rights of the respective women.
• In some communities difficulties arise on divorce when the couple discovers that their religious ceremony was not legally recognised, as their place of marriage was not registered. Women in particular, more frequently the financially weaker spouse, are likely to lose out if their rights on divorce are only those of a former cohabitee, not a former wife. A woman may not even have realised until this point that she was not married according to civil law.

Not that long ago (when the “status quo” in the UK was not quite what it is today) it would have been unthinkable that (official) UK courts would have needed to consider such matters when making their rulings. Today they do because parallel systems (which their adherents believe are "official") exist. That is why I say that the things I foresee are not as fanciful as you seem to think.
These cretinous throwbacks walk amongst us. Diversity has a heavy price.
"Let me know when someone in the UK can rape a woman and Sharia law will protect them from UK law."

And continually, either deliberately or by accident, you miss the point.

Sharia Law does not currently protect rapists from UK law. But not so long ago Sharia courts were not recognised at all and now their decisions are being accommodated in UK courts. I'm trying to demonstrate that things change and sometimes things you thought were totally outrageous just a few years ago are now accommodated. So how long before the bit of Sharia Law that exonerates rapists if they have been instructed by Allah, has to be accommodated in UK criminal courts? You believe never. I have a different view.
spathiphyllum
NJ you're implying women will soon be raped in the UK legally (in my opinion)due to Allah. This is absolute nonsense. We live in the 21st century where LGBT communities are being accepted and thriving. You think something so barbaric as rape will be accepted in the UK because of a large Muslim community? No. Never. If you think that you are honestly deluded.

You obviously haven't been taking notice of what has been happening outside some school gates in Birmingham.
Old_Geezer - // Well someone must be letting them, because rape happens. //

Rape happens in virtually every society and culture on the planet.

An unhealthy fixation by ignorant Western media looking to stir up hatred and sell papers by focusing on the link between Islam and rape does not alter that fact - it simply plays on it for its own ends.
david small - // These cretinous throwbacks walk amongst us. Diversity has a heavy price. //

Do you believe that rape is a by-product of diversity?

Seriously???
Aylesbury, Oxford, Keighley, Peterborough, Rotherham, Bristol …. all a figment of the media’s fevered hate-filled imagination – but not a figment of Muslim Naz Shah’s imagination. Well, she did tell victims to keep quiet about it. Isn’t the quest for social cohesion wonderful? Hold hands now - all around the happy maypole of diversity.
david small - I never wanted all this diversity. Diversity causes far too many problems.
Naomi - // Aylesbury, Oxford, Keighley, Peterborough, Rotherham, Bristol …. all a figment of the media’s fevered hate-filled imagination ... //

It could be construed that this post is a response to mine, referring to the comments about the media that I made at 17:24.

But that would be incorrect, because I did not suggest, much less state that the media 'imagines' the dreadful situations in those cities, merely that they slant their reports to play on fear and ignorance in their readerships.
“ You obviously haven't been taking notice of what has been happening outside some school gates in Birmingham.“

Oh people have been legally raped??
hereIam, //Diversity causes far too many problems. //

An understatement.
hereIam - // david small - I never wanted all this diversity. Diversity causes far too many problems. //

I have long believed that the term 'Diversity' is the same as 'Northern Powerhouse' and 'People's Vote' - it's a nonsensical label dreamed up by political soundbite writers to make MP's sound snappy and on the case.

It's utterly meaningless, except to act as a dreadful warning to the nation that pretending that everyone wants to live together and completely absorb every single aspect of everyone's culture, religion and lifestyle, is as ludicrous as it is dangerous.
spathi "Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience..."

Irony isn't a strong point with you is it?

Yes, translations and interpretations, but there isn't a 'Christian version' and a 'Jewish version'. There isn't a non-Christian version of the new testament or a non-Jewish version of the old.
//I never wanted all this diversity. Diversity causes far too many problems//

they robbed SuBo, that is for sure.

Another text-book example of the So Rule - start your post with the word 'So' and then write something that no-one else has said!
//You think something so barbaric as rape will be accepted in the UK because of a large Muslim community? No. Never. If you think that you are honestly deluded//

We have to excuse the totally uninformed writer of this post on the grounds of "invincible ignorance". Which is where you'll find the real "delusion".

As I don't think he has the capacity to assess and evaluate evidence honestly, I'll address the following few remarks to people who think his post may contain a grain of truth.

The gang rape of 1,400 under-age girls in Rotherham was covered up by the police, council and social services for over ten years. That simple fact in itself puts the lie to the post I've quoted.

Furthermore, the so-called Muslim "community" and its lying representatives (most notoriously the Muslim Council of Britain) have assisted in the de facto toleration of industrial rape by denying the presence of the Muslim rape gangs, or by refusing to acknowledge the scale and the prevalence of it when denial became impossible, and/or by vilifying those who have sought to expose this vile traffic. The most recent example active complicity - assisted by their friends in the Labour party - was the reviling of Rotherham's Sarah Champion by its Muslim spokesmen. A much earlier and even more disgusting case was that of Ann Cryer in Bradord where the whole Muslim/Labour complex (with the exception of one honourable Muslim councillor) united in vilfying Cryer as a racist, Islamophobe etc. and denied the existence of the rape gangs, although, given its far larger Muslim population, they would have would probably have been responsible for more victims that the far smaller Muslim population of Rotherham.

On the legal issue of rape in Islam (and it is a legal issue - the sharia - not a theological one), you don't need a statement by any Islamic scholar. Mohammed himself, the perfect model of conduct for all Muslims, was a serial rapist of non-Muslim women.
