What would it take to show that you are wrong?
In my own experience it was the willingness to explore different points of view.
It was painful but integrity and honesty meant more to me than anything.
I really couldn't give a fig what you believe (one of my best friends is a retired pastor) but I take issue with been preached at, as though you know the answers to lifes 'big questions' when you plainly don't.

I don't like being at preached at either.
Some people believe in God, some don't. Its not a difficult scenario to understand .

No its not difficult to understand but you have managed to understand the question Anne as always!
Try again.

*misunderstand* even ;-)
Could I for one minute turn your question around?

How would it benefit you if someone were to explain what it would take to prove their belief was wrong?

*As I write this there are only 3 of us on this thread and only one starts regular threads in R&S.

* That may have changed by the time I submit.

Not with you Mamy?
At the time of typing, 7 out of 10 posts were written by Theland.
This thread is your thread, there have been you,Anne and myself as contributors.
I'm simply trying to understand why it matters so much what others do or do not believe, but I'll leave it.
Maybe someone will come along and have a " discussion" with you nailit .

My apologies Mamya, ur right. I had been reading other threads and got mixed up. I'm on meds at the mo and dont know which planet I'm on, never mind which thread, lol. Apologies!
No need for apologies at all, like Anne I also hope someone with something pertinent responds.

Sorry if I've clogged up the thread a bit.
@Nailit: You really don't care that kids are taught a giant fairy can magic away any problem? I think you're trying to be inoffensive.

Faith leads to the rape of children. How? When believers realize they have deviant attractions to kids, they kneel in sincere (but misguided) efforts at supernatural telepathy rather than getting help from a mental health professional. People are being taught this will work. They are being taught this right now.

I'm not convinced believers are entitled to such opiates of fantasy with others paying such costs for their "feelings of peace and love", good times, and mainly: socializing.

I'm not convinced any reasonably normal person doesn't care.
Good evening.
Fair enough question, Nailit. Like you, for me integrity and honesty were paramount in dividing the wheat from the chaff.

Mamyalynne, //I'm simply trying to understand why it matters so much what others do or do not believe ….. I also hope someone with something pertinent responds. //

I’ll respond. It matters to me because I care about other people. It matters to me that little children are taught they are sinners from birth, it matters to me that girls are raised to believe they are inferior to men and are the chattels of men, and it matters to me that millions are intimidated into believing that unless they obey rules constructed by others they are doomed for eternity. I trust that is pertinent enough to be going on with.
The original question, what would it take to show I was wrong?
Well I haven't come across any argument yet that would suggest my beliefs are wrong. Have you got one?
As for brainwashing and abusing kids, there is clearly a bastardised form of religion going on here. Or at least religion, as Christianity is not religion but a personal relationship with God.
I like the new avatar.
Hope you are well.
Thank you Naomi, that's clear enough why you'd ask it - not the question for me then.

I wasn't brought up that way nor were mine.
What definition of religion are you using THELAND?
You call it my RELIGION. In fact, it is more accurate to regard it as a personal relationship with God, where God takes all the initiative.
Religion as I understand it is mans attempt to reconcile himself with God. Major difference.
You take issue with being preached at.
Don't blame ya mate!
Mamyalynne, //I wasn't brought up that way nor were mine. //

Highly commendable I’m sure.

Theland, //there is clearly a bastardised form of religion going on here.//

Oh, I see. “It’s not me Guv, it’s the others”….. and yet you spend so much of your time pronouncing doom and encouraging anxiety.
