Hi, How many of you believe in mediums and psychics? Do you believe ghosts exist? How does the Ouija Board work? How can a board with a few numbers and letters call a spirit? Is there life after death? Do we meet our family who have gone before us? thanks

Caran, my husband similarly. I wouldn't say he was 'shattered', but rather that he is now in no doubt.
//I don't believe you" is the equivalent of "you're lying"//

No it isn't.

(In my defense, I did also attempt to phrase this diplomatically with the token use of "I'm sorry.." but I'm not sure any careful wording would have changed the result).
the mod looked like being a bit 'protective' too IMHO - not good
Also there is (yet another) a problem with insisting on experience, which is that a supposed experience of ghosts/spirits only counts as one if you choose to interpret it that way. I have, like everyone, had experiences which I, personally, cannot explain - either because I wasn't paying enough attention at the time, did not feel inclined to investigate further for whatever reason, or that I simply wasn't sufficiently equipped/educated to explain. Whether I choose to immediately smack the "ghost/supernatural/spirit" button to explain whatever happened is a completely different question - and it's one that you're far more likely to smack if you're already somewhat believing. Personally, I don't think my own inadequacy/ignorance when it comes to explaining unusual things is proof that they have a paranormal/supernatural explanation.

So, "you have to experience it to believe it" essentially just means "you have to believe it to believe it." It's meaningless.
Krom, unless you’re exceedingly gullible I think you probably do have to experience it to believe it. I don’t believe that anything is ‘supernatural’ – nothing at all - but that said when odd things happen I consider every possible explanation before reaching the conclusion that it defies reason – which currently, it appears, some things do. Hopefully that won't always be the case.
// I don’t believe that anything is ‘supernatural’ //

Me neither. Things are either real or they aren't.

Quoi - I thought that as well.

That struck me as 'because I'm a believer and you're not, this is a warning that I possess the power to shut you up'.

As you say - not good.
Ludwig, exactly, but I do think a lot of people ‘want’ so much to believe it that they discount the possibility of coincidence (the white feather story for example) and attribute anything that doesn’t present an immediate explanation to the ‘supernatural’.
I will come back to add that when I experienced these activities there were absolutely no mediums, psychichs whatever you want to call them present to influence anything.. and I have experienced such in multiple locations with different people..it does not happen at every event I attend but nevertheless it has happened frequently enough not to be a coincidence or to have been staged or imagined... and I do find the latter term insulting to a person of intelligence and religious belief... "to the believer no proof is necessery, to the non-believer no proof is enough "
Derren Brown has a great point of view on this, IMO. Have you seen them? You can find them on youtube. though I admit I am guilty of reading my horoscopes

I'm with Tim Minchin:

nope dont believe any of it
Myself and some friends were sat around a Ouija board one dark night, the room lit only by candles and the odd flash of lightning that accompanied the thunder outside the remote cottage. We asked the board, "Is there anybody there?" Instantly the planchette shot to the top right hand corner of the board and stopped, pointing to the word "No". So we braved the inclement weather and went down the pub.
murraymints // I do find the latter term insulting to a person of intelligence and religious belief...//

What latter term?
There is much that is unexplained and for many these experiences are both a wonder and a comfort.

Never share these with the hope of all nodding in agreement - accept others will challenge them.

You could of course simply hold them close.
If someone said that they saw Elvis in the chip shop, I wouldn't consider it insulting to say you didn't believe them.
And that Garaman is puerile
Not to me.
