They believe in a creator of some sort because the universe didn't just happen but not religion and all that mumbo jumbo.

Although professing to be godly modeller, they are gambling with you. You are playing poker with them, you are expected at some stage to go 'all in' or fold. Regardless of what your call is they will continue the 'game' and find a new player.
