A Joyless Existence?

Given that the posts on here from Christians continually vacillate between admonishing the rest of us for not believing in their god as they do, and fretting and worrying about their worthiness to enter heaven after they die -

Is it not fair to say that being a Christian is a seriously joyless existence?

Does 'God' really intend us to be so utterly bereft of anything approaching happiness on this earth?

And if so - why?

Can't speak for anyone else Retrocop but antidepressants do not have you walking around in a euphoric joyful state.

Why assume that only Christians have the correct morality?
My B.I.L worships cricket. Little younger than me. Quite an intelligent younger man. Was a school teacher and held many posts of responsibility. He lost them all due to mental problems. We believe he suffered a serious sexual assault at boarding school but is still too traumatised at 60yrs to relate it and get it unlocked from his brain. He is an atheist. A very joyless experience he suffers and more so his wife who is also non Christian.
We live in a vale of tears. I see no reasons to be cheerful.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.
Well that is a queer barrel of fish. An ABer posts a thread and when one of his posts is used to justify a point of view that he posted in the first place it is removed. ??

Referring to medication to help with a chemical imbalance as 'happy pills' speaks volumes about someone's lack

I'm not convinced the theists have an advantage when a loved one dies, over the years I've always found they show more grief then any atheist. I'd have thought the reverse would be true, they would rejoice that the person has gone to a better place, which is what they believe isn't it?
I understand mental imbalance full well. Happy pills, uppers what difference does it make? Amphetamines. My Grand father swallowed drain cleaner in a mental asylum years ago and my intelligent B.I.L. is a gibbering unintelligible person at times. It is strange that he always calls me for solace when he has these episodes and not his immediate family so please do not lecture me and accuse me of having lack of understanding. I have spent most of the night trying to get him into a psychiatric unit in St Peter's Hospital, Ealing when his family despaired and couldn't handle him.

Sorry, andy-hughes, no. I don't admonish anyone (don't know anyone who does) and I don't fret about my 'worthiness to enter heaven' - but I do try to do the right thing. As long as my efforts are honest.

I find much joy in my life, you are seriously misunderstanding the Christian God, I think.
^^^ P.S. It was a great comfort to me when my mum died to know that somehow-or-other the essence of her will join the essence of me after I die.
No, I don't believe we'll sit on clouds twanging harps tunelessly!
I wasn't castigating anyone, simply my aversion to the term.

My problem.

I think I was the guilty party re my post at 2027.
//retrocop. I think Mamy was castigating me, not you.//

That was the post where I asked the poster of this thread a question but has suddenly disappeared to answer it.
I note he hasn't gone too far to have a post of mine removed whereby I copy and paste his words from another different thread which was one of his own posts that I quoted. His words but when they come back to bite him they are removed.??
