`Lets face it Religion brings nothing into humanity apart from war and is only used as a power of control and money. What will actually be the final straw when these old books are merely just a joke to out future generation? They will be looking back and laughing how stupid we were to follow what is merely a fairy tale.

What scientific discoveries will stop religion or what events?

Yes, one advantage of taking the doomed route means they will no longer need to knock on my door.

Naomi,

/// You’d better hope you’re batting for the right team///

I think benhilton is playing his deliveries to Silly Point :-(
There is only one antidote for the consequences of blind faith and preferred delusion . . . the prevalence of reason.
Naomi this is a quite disgraceful putting of words into my mouth . I have not at any stage said that I am thrilled by the prospect of the end of the world or even hinted at it . Look at one of my previous answers - I said to keep using cash - that will delay the thing for as long as possible .
benhilton

Your posts remind me of the late Christopher Hitchens who stated:-

"Exceptional claims demand exceptional evidence".

Par for the course unfortunately Benhilton. This is Religion & Spirituality and what one comes to expect here.
benhilton,

/// for centuries people have been trying to figure out what that bible passage means///

Hence, your theories fall into a long old queue. Hitchens is undoubtedly correct.
How are you sure Ag that one person is right and everyone else wrong?
A case can be made that religion has been around about as long as homo sapiens. It was born of fear about the time than mankind became aware of the inevitability of death and was reinforced by the awareness of our vulnerability in the natural world- especially during darkness.
The civilisation of humans followed the revolution in agriculture but the fear has persisted and became organised into established creeds which threatened each other.
There is no way out and Religion will never end.
seadogg. You are a welcome voice of reason in a sea of rubbish here.
Grasscarp,

///How are you sure Ag that one person is right and everyone else wrong?///

Hitchens, despite being a staunch atheist, made that comment which is common sense. He could equally have uttered the same words as a theist.
So, Ag, in your opinion Hitchens statement was common sense and therefore everybody elses opinion is wrong and allows you to state categorically Hitchens is undoubtedly correct?
Thanks grasscarp.
No, I've merely stated that Hitchens is correct in saying that it is reasonable to expect a high level of evidence to endorse claims.

Everybody making a claim to understanding cannot be correct can they?
Your interpretation doesnt really leave anything open to debate does it Ag. You have decided that Hitchens is correct and that is the end of the matter!
I disagree Grasscarp. Theorising and speculation may actually be proven correct at a later time but in the absence of solid proof to substantiate certain claims then the threshold to be convinced cannot be attained.
OK Ag, I appreciate what you say. Just seems a little harsh to squash discussion twice with this is correct and therefore your contribution has no substance to Benhilton. We are all entitled to our views and who knows ultimately who is correct?
Grasscarp,

benhilton and anyone else is entitled to their views but it is reasonable to challenge where there is plenty of room for doubt.

If supporting evidence is irrefutable then I would concede defeat...
So you won't concede defeat without irrefutable evidence!
No debate or room for discussion then. These threads lead nowhere when people who are so certain they are correct want to cut off any other view. So much for free speech.
Grasscarp, challenge works both ways, debate and freedom of speech is essential. I'm not saying it isn't!
So when you said to Benhilton

Hence, your theories fall into a long old queue. Hitchens is undoubtedly correct.
You were actually encouraging debate.
My mistake.
