Water Divining

I’ve just been listening to ‘The Bottom Line’ on Radio 4 where the guests were the vice president of CH2M Hill, the CEO of Veolia Water, and the CEO of Anglian Water, who all said that water diviners are used within their respective industries. One said if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed it works. Listen to the last few minutes of the programme from about 27.14.

Sorry, I'm not sure that link works properly on my phone, as there was nothing relevant. I assume they are the same companies using different methods, as those you have mentioned? If they're different companies, it would not be relevant. If the same, i would be interested in the statistical success rates of the different methods.

I remember someone posted about this a few years ago and the post drew similarly sweeping (seemingly insecure) scathing dismissive responses. No mind like an open mind eh?
It does f*cking work, WS Atkins of Epsom routinely hired dowsers to find underground water - not 'conclusive proof' IMO - just a little something to say it just *might* be legitimate and not just "hocus pokus".

Please elaborate on your fabled "Earth energies" what exactly are they and how do they work or are they similar to "Crystals energy" which involves a usually high as a kite white dreadlocked woman in camden wearing sandals beads and a tie dye t-Sugar which to be honest is hit and miss at the best of times?

I am very open-minded. As soon as it is scientifically proven and explained, i will believe it. Until then, it rates to me, amongst old wives' tales, superstition and suchlike. I like some evidence (not anecdotal-i have heard of alien abduction anecdotally) before i believe something works.

Pixie, It's a link to the Anglian Water website but it isn’t about divining and it doesn’t provide statistical success rates. I listened to the interview, and simply posted this question because I was quite astonished at what was said. I don't think these men are lying - why would they? - and so I would love to know how it works – albeit inconsistently - that’s all.

I doubt they were lying. I think they truly believe it. I am just not convinced the evidence is available yet to validate the claims.

I don't think lying captures it either, similar to what pixie says. Certainly I'm not going to accuse these men, or anyone else in this thread, of lying. I just think that they are wrong, or at least that their claims have no substance.

So you believe anything you hear anywhere at anytime unless some suit in a lab you it's either busted or truth? Wow, just wow. I say do your own research and stop being a sheep.

I think I said earlier, possibly in the other thread that's basically become an extension of this one, that I wonder if perhaps your positions and mine aren't all that different. It's just that -- well, in many of our discussions on other religious matters it's become clear that I know far less than I thought I did about it all. Whereas in this one, well, it's more scientific and in such matters, rightly or wrongly, I'm a lot more confident of my positions.

"angry" - your post (the one I reacted to) is LOADED with anger.
"incoherent" ...which bit didn't you understand?

Jim, But how can they be wrong? They've witnessed it. How would it benefit them - or their companies - to misrepresent what they've seen?
