Voodoo As A Viable Religion

As a religion, Voodoo seems more realistic than the major, big religions ... Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc.

The Voodooists see their God as distant and unknowable ... well, YES! ... and they form bonds with the spirits whom God (sorry, "Bondye") sends to do his day to day chores.

That just seems so much more plausible than all this "one God who is everywhere" nonsense.

I'm really coming round to the idea of Voodoo.

I wonder if we have a local Voodoo place? Oh, ha! ... who am I kidding? In this town, you can hardly move for occult places.

I also like all the parties and nudity.

I'm going to have to think of a Voodoo name for myself.

It could take place indoors.

Although, in the Summer, the graveyard on the hill top near Whitby Abbey (is it "Abbey"?) would be perfect for a bit of a Voodoo ceremony.
Indoors sounds good. Could we also do it in the dark because gravity is starting to take effect on the bod.

The graveyard near the Abbey is NOT a good place for a ceremony. Huge chunks of the graveyard keep breaking off and startled tourists are not impressed when they are hit on the head by a 300 year old leg bone
Mmmmm I'm beginning to like the sound of this Voodoo stuff.

Hey overreach I didn't start it.
Tony - this is a serious post on the viability of a new religion and you just have to lower the tone don't you? ;-)
No mrs o, I'm just interested in the 'viability' of this new religion, I am open minded you know ;-)

I'm wondering if the risk of the ground where you're standing falling into the sea might not add a little excitement to the proceedings? A little ... "frisson"?
Dunno about that jj, never really fancied a burial at sea myself.

It's not a "new" religion.

There is a thread just above this one about starting a new religion.

I just think its time that the developed world started to embrace Voodoo.
Or indeed, being arrested as they'll stand for none of that poncey nonsense in Yorkshire.
I quite like the idea of a Baron Samedi makeover though.
I know it's not a new religion jj, did it start in Africa ?. Very popular in Haiti so I believe.
Yes, falling into the sea might add a little frisson.

Unfortunately the graveyard is situated directly above a kipper smoking shed and landing on its tin roof does not sound quite so appealing
Voodoo is pure superstitious nonsense..........hang on, I can smell burning feathers, be back in a mo...........
Question Author
That seems to be right, tony. It's big in Haiti. And Brighton.
Question Author
Mosaic just bagged the role of Baron Samedi.

Instead of Bibles, we'd just need copies of Live And Let Die. We could watch the DVD.

I find it hard to think of cricket whilst naked.
Naked Limbo Dancing is quite an eye-opener though ...
