The word “know” can carry a wide range of meanings. For example, a person Who had never met him might say: “Yes, I know David Cameron. He is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.” On the other hand, another person who has, on numerous occasions, seen the Prime Minister might acknowledge: “No, I don’t know Mr. Cameron.”

I am reading this thread and cannot quite get my head round the fact that the OP was about knowing God, and now it seems to have gravitated towards Christmas, Santa Claus, the Watchtower Organisation and even to a little mudslinging.

Surely a person is entitled to his/her belief without having to state every time that he/she is a believer and have to battle...

I'm not volunteering for that role ^
I think you are using this section to flex your literary muscles and involve yourself in cod-debate where you ask odd questions and then get snotty when you don't like the replies.

It's this sort of head-shaking pompous attitude that gets Christians (as opposed to Christianiry) a bad name.

There are people on here who are never going to agree with your stance on belief, so you might as well accept it - as others do.
goodlife: >>And therefore, you have to keep working on this belief, otherwise you might find something to disprove your Theory.<<

So do you have a belief in "No Santa Claus" and if so is it a struggle for you to maintain the "No belief" ?

You really say the most foolish things at times!
goodlife: >>And therefore, you have to keep working on this belief, otherwise you might find something to disprove your Theory.<<

You have the wrong end of the stick. I've searched for years for something that will disprove my theory - but to no avail.

Surely a person is entitled to his/her belief without having to state every time that he/she is a believer and have to battle against such ill mannered, childish comments each time. My youngest can do better than a lot of you on here.

We are supposed to be educated, civil people. But I am beginning to have my doubts.

It is a good job we are online and not facing one another as I could see there easily being a riot.
Funny really the internet. We can be anyone we want. You don’t know me. I don’t know you.
I could be the person sitting opposite you, the one working alongside you, your neighbour. Maybe, I could even be the one you consider your friend.

So beware what you say – it could be held against you.

There is nothing stopping you, so why come and comment on someone you consider to be inferior to you?

Oh, and by the way. Did you know this is a copy & paste? You all seem to have a thing about it so I will admit to it. But it is my own work, I have copy and pasted it from my notepad.

How can you say that. I changed my belief, can you really speak for everyone on here?

Doubtful - no-one sits opposite or next to me. My neighbours are not AB'ers.

Of course we all have our beliefs, but if you had been on here longer (I suspect you are new?) you would know that goodlife posts this type of tiresome non-Question at regular intervals, and then screeds out loads of biblical text to back up his points, while wilfully refusing to answer the points put in response.

The regulars on here enjoy some genuine debate, but this is not it, and as is the way with these things, either goodlife or his responders will become bored, and the entire nonsense will dry up.

Trust me, I have been here long enough to have seen it all before, many times.

Like Goodlife – I don’t believe in Santa Clause – and no it is not a struggle for me because it is all based on a lie anyway. But I can see where he/she is coming from but you obviously don’t!

Are you absolutely sure? Is everyone honest? Does everyone tell others everything? Do you tell others everything you do, see, say or think? If you do, then you must be Mr Perfect!!

How can I say that? Simple. It's a fact.

There are people on here who are never going to agree with goodlife - but I did not say that everyone on here will not agree - that is not the same thing at all, which is why I did not say it.
But enough of this. This is going just the way I mentioned earlier, - away from the OP. And I don't want to fall into the trap of you all.

No i am not certain - it's in the nature of an educated guess.

No I do not tell others everything I do, say or think.

No, I am not Mr Perfect.

Have you tried the News Section, there is a gentleman called Anotheoldgit with whom you will get along famously - do please get aquainted.
I would have thought, even believed, that we all had more chance of experiencing 'the rapture' than of seeing someone here in R&S admit to changing their views.
That's because everyone else has a view that is open to pursuasion sandy - only devout Christians occupy the moral high ground in an argument - us atheists are just getting along, living our lives - open to any and all reasonable argument from anywhere - makes life much eaier - come on in the water's lovely.
Its easier to be an atheist - more wars and chaos have been casued by religion that anything else.
Yep, very true, smow.
//More wars are caused by religion// is one of those easy things that people say

It's very easy to point the finger at organised religion because it's very fashionable to have individual belief or faith or spirituality without organised religion.

Well let's be a bit more direct

All of this faith, belief, spirituality, hocus pocus is simply irrational superstition and is as harmful as religion.

It promotes 'magical thinking' which ends with people doing irrational and often downright dangerous things

Like Steve Jobs rejecting treatment and deciding he could defeat his cancer through positive thought

He couldn't
Question Author
The question was Do you Know Your God?

Because every intelligent person walks in the name of some god. Yes, whether nations or individuals realize it or not, they serve some god. ‘How can that be?’ Well, not everyone today serves a specific god by name, as did the ancients. But some persons idolize actors, politicians, sportsmen, even themselves atheists. Why, their god may be their own belly! (Phil. 3:18, 19) Some directly worship Satan the Devil, whereas others serve him unwittingly. (Revelation 12:9-12) So that is all on the matter.
Who are we to presume to say that we know the ineffable? A better question, by far, would have been, 'Does your God know you?'
Next time goodlife - could you add the following on to your Question -

"I have asked a Question.

There is no point in anyone posting any replies because I will not agree with you.

I am simply waiting until you have all had your say, and then I will give you the Correct Answer - which of course is my answer, which I knew all along.

Which really negates the point of posting in the first place - but it does give me a chance to show off my biblical and textual knowledge.

So wait a couple of days, and I will Answer my own Question.

Of course, you may wish to ignore this completely, and given your past experience, I would completely understand."
