further on, along my route, ( see post below) i saw a blind man, stood at the curb, holding his stick straight up in the air. I assumed this meant that he wanted to cross, and I began to slow down.
It's a very busy road and the cars coming the other way were going so fast, and I worried that if he crossed where I was, the others wouldn't stop and then he'd be in danger because of me!
So i didn't stop and I feel bad.
Is that what they do, when they need to cross?

there was a big line of traffic behind me, and we were just through the lights.
It is a 40mph road, and it really was't a safe place at all.
There were pedestrians walking - wouldn't you think one of them would stop to help?
hopefully !!!

Could be he wanted a taxi.
They are not blind people - they are visually impaired!

maryanna34 - for goodness sake!

The first place to stop was a long way up the road, and i was on my way to pick up my father, to take him to hospital. I can't help everyone!

I know someone who is "visually impaired". He is registered 'blind', and is a member of the blind society.

thanks maryanna x

he didn't look distressed - I just wondered if it was a signal, that i didn't know about! I've rang my friend, but no answer, I presume he'll know!
maryanna - what I was getting at was not all people with a white stick are blind. Sorry if I offended you.

I think we are both right! ;-)
It is a signal for 'stop' I want to cross, however, you did right not to as you say - traffic in the other direction etc. made it dangerous to do so. The gentleman may have been in unfamiliar territory and hopefully another pedestrian would have come to his aid.

I have a white symbol cane, rarely need it thankfully.
Why was Marryanna removed. I didn't think she did anything wrong!
