For Islam to have Nuns they would have to acknowledge that women are not inferior in the eyes of god.

So the answer is no.

are you sure Dave or is that just your take on it. I truely would like to know if they exist
nanny They don't have celibacy and every religious order leader is male. If there are nuns I have never heard of them.

However I suppose the purdah could be a very libeberal interpretation.
Nannybooby, no, Islam doesn't have nuns.
they don't really do monks, either; monasticism, living apartt from the world, is more a Christian thing

well I thought it was pretty unlikely , missing out on a lot though arent they
I don't know what you mean. Why are they missing out on a lot?
The question can be turned around and why do Nuns dress like Hajibis with their covered heads, the equivalent of a khimar....?
Indeed, DT - nuns could be viewed as hijabis.
There have been tales of Muslim girls marrying the Koran - but I wouldn't put much 'faith' in them.

//nuns could be viewed as hijabis. //

Hardly. There's a little more to life in a convent than dress code.
To be a nun you are supposed to giveup so many things in your life. Most importantly you can't marry as you are supposed to be married to god. And that is completely against human rights as getting married, giving love and getting love and having children is one of the main basic right of any human. Therefore Islam is against it.
keyplus, no woman is forced to be a nun.
Every nun can leave of their own free will if they wish, then they can get married in church if they want to.
Such a woman would not be considered 'infidel'.
hc, Quite right. It is a choice that women make of their own free will.
What religion will ask (or let) someone to make a choice to give up the most basic things in his/her life?

Sorry Naomi , in response to your earlier comment , I meant that there are a lot of famous relegious women in the christian history ie mother Theresa , al the female saints etc.
Furthermore, some women have become nuns after their children have grown up. Divorced and widowed women are not automatically barred.

In most Orders women spend at least two years with a convent before taking vows.
Jawab, a missionary is very different to a nun, though a nun cane be a missionary. It isn't logical the other way around, i,e Are all female missionaries, nuns? An unequivocal "No".
Keyplus, //What religion will ask (or let) someone to make a choice to give up the most basic things in his/her life?//

Religion doesn’t ‘ask’ it, but if a woman chooses it, why shouldn’t she be able to make that free choice? Why should religion (or anything else) dictate her path in life? It’s her life.

Nannyboody, Oh, I see. Personally, I don’t think they’re missing out in that respect, but I thought you meant living in a convent was something to aspire to. :o)
