have a problem with reasoning?
I have a few folk that I'm in contact with (of the religious persuasion) and it seems that any mention of a reasoned discussion is out of the equation. Bring reason into the disscusion and it always turned out that 'God' knows best.
I'm very interested in the spiritual/religious side of life but we have to be reasonable as well surely?

im a firm believer in Islam, but i don't impose my beliefs on others, and refuse to debate about my religion and beliefs. These are my own, and i keep them close. Atheists do not offend me, each to their own. I reason with people if dragged into a debate, and yes god does know best, but you have to help yourself.
Indeed rozia, live and let live. Who really knows how it might all shake out. It's all just a question of personal belief.
Question Author
so we shouldnt question personel beliefs? Why?
No good would come of it.
not really, coz if someone has a personal belief, then its personal isnt it? I suppose there is no harm in questioning things, just bear in mind, people may not give you the answer you like to hear.
Because:

"im a firm believer in Islam, but i don't impose my beliefs on others, and refuse to debate about my religion and beliefs. These are my own, and i keep them close"

it's personal
Yes we should. Especially because we can without any fear. Not a luxury afforded to some in more repressed countries that are tied down to stone age controlling moralities.
oh im not imposing my beliefs... honest....i'll take my leave now lol
Night. :)

Nope. Sorry, still dont buy it. Because someone's belief is personnel we can't question the validity of that belief???
So buy the same reckoning, if some pedo believes that its ok to have sex with kiddies then we can't question that either? Or is that somehow different because it doesnt require a belief in God or religion?
I'm getting confused.
You're baiting nailit but I'm not biting. You know how the law stands in certain countries that follow a certain religion that advocate certain practices. it's disgusting and we all know it goes on.
Scraping the barrel Nailit, I never debate beliefs, each to their own.

Eh? Why am I baiting or scraping the barrel? I merely asked a question about reasoning religious belief. This is the R&S section isnt it? Not the dont ask questions section...
No, some don't have any problem with reasoning, they just don't see why they should have to justify their beliefs to any other person - and why should they? They don't affect what I believe or what I don't believe. Why should any person who believes, have other people keeping going on to them about their belief is based on myth or falsehood, in an attempt to change their beliefs? None of us know anyway, but some people gain comfort in a religion. I'll enter into a debate, but I won't call deny someone the right to believe what they want to.
@Rozia - “... [I] refuse to debate about my religion and beliefs...”, closely followed by, “... people may not give you the answer you like to hear...”

Are we to assume that the reason you actively avoid engaging with people who may question your belief is because you may not like what you hear? Is your belief in Islam built on such unstable foundations that you cannot and will not even discuss its veracity with someone who holds an opposing opinion?

If this is the case, why did you respond to the original question at all?
No birdie, I understand rozia's statement - I feel the same - it's the questioners who might get an answer they don't like/want to hear. Let people get on with it if they want to, other people don't need to keep challenging why a person believes a certain thing.
Birdie, my response to the question was my opinion, i am not afraid to debate my religion with people, but i refuse to get enthralled into such debates, as i have my personal belief and do not like to make it impersonal by discussing with others, that may not understand, or may not be willing to understand, and like i said before, each to their own!!! And yes, people should question things out of curiosity, but it doesn't mean they can just put the religion down due to their feelings towards it. All religions are more or less the same, just altered in one way another. As of now, i will not take part in this
thanks boxtops ;-)
@Boxtops - “... it's the questioners who might get an answer they don't like/want to hear...”

I rather doubt that. But we'll never know as we're not debating apparently.

“... Let people get on with it if they want to, other people don't need to keep challenging why a person believes a certain thing...”

I do. However, if someone posts a response to a question on a website that has been specifically designed to facilitate debate then it's rather contrary to qualify that post by claiming that they never debate...
