Did a bit of last minute shopping last night in town. Met the boyfriend and we went and had some dinner when I remembered I needed some birthday cards. We went to Clinton Cards on the way back to the car park at about 7pm. All the shops were due to stay open until 8. When we got to Clintons, they had just closed the door and put a sign on the window saying because of the severe weather conditions they were closing early. This I could normaly accept, however in High Wycombe last night there were no severe weather conditions, the roads were as clear as they have been for a week and nothing was forecast until possibly tonight (a day later). None of the other shops around had closed early. It did occur to me that the four staff members I could see standing inside the shop appeared to be of a different faith that wouldn't celebrate Christmas. Now, is this just my biggoted mind coming in to play or am I on to something.

What faith are you guessing them to be?
Damn dem brown folks.............
Why would their faith affect whether they shut early or not?
Perhaps it was bad weather wherever they were going back home to?

There is no law saying they have to keep open until 8
They might not even live in High Wycombe....
My experience of shopkeepers is they don't let religious differences get in the way of seperating people from their money.
Surely they're more likely to stay open if they're non-Christian?

Also, how could you tell their faith? Unless they were Sikhs I guess?

So yes, probably your own prejudices shining through. Re-examine the situation and realise they probably, like a great deal of the British public, just wanted to go home as early as they could get away with.
Think you're making too much of it. We're letting staff go early (different area entirely) and there's no problems here at all with the weather but where they are travelling back to have lots of problems still.
From my experience Clinton's don't do biurthday cards in December anyway (except for one rack of rubbish right at the back of the store!)
^True.
Try buying a 'Happy Christmas Day Birthday' card.............:o(
If the extended chrstmas openings were not meeting costs then they are instructed to close, or send staff home, but 4 may have been the miniumu number of staff they can trade with, or maybe someone else had to leave and only left less than the miniumu allowed, either way, the extra openings are flexible. We closed early last saturday as there were few customers bravin the elements.
Hey Jack...there's a gap in the market there...!!!

That's me told then.
It's just Allah's way of telling you to be more organised.

And................I need to buy two every year !!

I mean, statistically speaking, one in every 365 people is born on Christmas Day !
China has a fair point, no one said where the adverse weather conditions are. It might be that all the staff have to make their way out into the winter wonderland that has rudely dumped itself over large parts of the country - and they want to make a start on it as it'll be a long drive!
If I include your Mum...I know 3..
I drove to High Wycombe yesterday and had no probs with the conditions, though did feel I was the only Christian there.
Wjat made you think that, McMouse ?
