Well, I knew that about the milk, but when someone mentioned that they put in in the cup first I tried to act the gent and play down the enormity of the gaffe. The same way the King was said to have sipped from a finger bowl when he saw one of his guests doing it.
I wonder how many of the guests of the king would have made that faux pas?

I don't believe this! Milk first always! Nothing to do with class but everything to do with not having one's best bone china crack, or ending up with a gob full of tea leaves (the vulgar mob who use tea bags need not reply).

No Mike, whether you use tea leaves or tea bags milk LAST always - and it's everything to do with spoiling the cup of tea. If you put the milk in first, you can't assess how much you need. Put it in last and you can gauge the right amount to have your tea just the way you like it. Not snobby - just practical. Simples.
