This probably covers everything you would want to know....

During Shabbat (Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath) there is a long list of forbidden tasks, as all unnecessary work is prohibited on that day.

One such task is 'tearing' and some Jews use special toilet paper that comes in individual sheets, so no tearing is necessary.

Married ladies are expected to keep their hair hidden at all times - it is for the eyes of God and her husband only. Of course, these ladies want to look their best, and many wear beautiful wigs.

Meat and dairy must be kept separate at all times. Many Jewish households have two fridges and anything that has come into contact with meat or dairy will be kept separate and washed up separately.

It is a very complex and fascinating religion - more can read here:

Ethel seems to have picked rather extreme examples of Jewish law - most people are not that strict. Suggest you look at the site Octavius recommended.
My oven has a Shabbat setting - so I could put the meal in and set the timer more than 24 hours in advance.

So no cooking on Shabbat
There was a famous Jewish elder and scholar around 110BC who said that the Golden Rule for Judaism is "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the Torah, the rest is explanation".

It is most important to adopt a racist arrogance that you are one of God's chosen people.
I find that comment extremely offensive, beso
Beso could possibly be quite an intelligent person beneath all the acrimonious preaching.

Sadly, we only get the latter.
during monopoly when they pass go they collect 200

Am I right ?
I'm not wrong !
apart from 1 comment,i was thinking how polite people were being, which is nice to see.showing a positive interest in others.
The full rules for being a Jew are in Leviticus, and each individual Jew will choose which of them he or she will obey. What is a mystery is why Christians also pick and choose from these Jewish rules. Their rejection of homosexuality, for example, comes from this book but those same Christians don't reject the idea of prawn cocktails or ham sandwiches, neither do they sacrifice lambs or kids when their children are born. All very odd.

How wonderfully free it is to be an atheist and not be bound by these unnatural and weird restrictions.
Actually its Halakha, but you seem to have picked out the parts that suit your ideology.
Oh dear, Octavius, still out for a fight I see. I don't know what you mean by my ideology since I haven't got one.

I 'picked out' examples because to have quoted all the rules and regulations in Leviticus would have taken several pages. I merely pointed out that Christians pick out one or two rules that suit them but cheerfully ignore the rest. If you disagree explain why.
I dated a man who followed a kosher diet.. no seafood, nothing that comes from the water unless it had fins and scales. and something about not eating cloven-footed animals.. I think!
A fight? That sounds like atheist talk to me!

No, merely an observation that you set out to debunk religious persuasion as a pick n mix ritualistic process, simply to demonstrate that atheism is better as you have nothing to choose but emptiness and bitterness towards those who choose believe otherwise.

As I said, just an observation.

Ethel and Octavius should spend some time reading the Jew's sacred testament. It clearly states that their God selected them as the "chosen people" and helped their forefathers commit a brutal genocide against more than 30 tribes who already lived there.

We have been brought up with a tradition that we must respect the religious beliefs of others. Yet there is no more reason to respect in the Jewish faith than that of the Nazis who held practical identical philosophies of god given superiority and mass genocide.

All those who worship Abraham's monster contribute to the denegration of humanity. If you care to research the history of those who have followed the inspiration of this psychotic schitzophrenic you will realise I am not just talking about Jews so don't label me an antisemite.
Granted, but how does that answer the original question?

Also, are you now saying that what was written in the testament was true? I always thought you believed it to be a load of bunkum or are you picking and choosing also?
in the case of stamford hill cowboys (hasidic),

wear a silly hat and drive a volvo,
Octavius:
The Bible is upheld by the believers as God's proscription on how to behave, that is, the Rules of the Jewish Faith.

It does not matter if the Bible is an accurate record of the Israelite history or simply mythology. Believers accept it as fact and many Israelite scholars spend their lives trying to back it up with scientific evidence.

By accepting the faith the believer accepts that the genocides conducted by the Israelites were the Will of God. Those who disregard the Book of Joshua but claim to follow the Bible are the ones who are picking and choosing.

Personally I believe the whole of the Bible is a load of bunkum written by arrogant mysogynists. However it is a dangerous load of bunkum accepted by billions of people and is a big part of what is bad in the world.
