My aunt died recently and the funeral is next week.

She never married but has 1 sister and 6 grown up nephews and nieces.

I say that the sister and nephews and nieces should be in the first car following the hearse and not their spouses.

Is this right?

Yes.

Only, that makes 7 people plus driver, so unless the first car is a minibus...
... or a stretch party limo.
The sister and her partner, if she has one, then the blood relatives.

Partners of the nieces and nephews are not normally offered a seat in a funeral car, but I guess it depends how many cars you have.
