Lovely idea naomi, I did this through a church group during the first Gulf War and had very moving letters back, but this looks as though it must to be done through groups again and not individuals. Shame.

Cetti, thank you. I was hoping there would be people here attached to groups, but if not perhaps the organisers may be able to point them in the direction of someone in their area who's involved - and then maybe they can tag along.
