Just watching the 10pm news with
brief footage of the attacks on 9/11. All these years later it never ceases to shock.

Not a question - just an observation from my perspective.

The more I read about it the more shocked I am. For instance, the thousands of body parts yet to be identified. And the people who jumped to their deaths rather than being burned. Still shocking.
Hard to believe that it was so long ago and yet the atrocity and similar events continue to happen. What has happened to humanity?
//What has happened to humanity?//

Mainly Islamic lunatics learned that passenger planes make good flying bombs.
Actually, similar events have not happened.
The war on terror which has been roundly condemned by many and which indeed had its own issues, appears largely to have been successful

head spook Ken McCallum - said as a case officer ( spook on the street) - this is what we will be doing for ten years.

Arena enquiry not going well:
Judge: Sir John Saunders for it was he
So do we have −− sorry to cut across this . You have a police view which is actually , when you’re dealing with secondary unexploded devices, you still go in and you have an Ambulance Service view, if there are unexploded devices in there, you don’t go in. So it ’s all very well having a huddle, but before you started you actually have different views of what you’re going to do

Huddle is officialese for a prayer meeting ( where all the big nobs on scene inform each other and bring up to date )

I think it is too early to call time on the war on terror

Head spook - it isnt a war ! they go around blowing up civilians and teenagers!
It certainly is Peter.
President Biden claims the war in Afghanistan is over. As Tony Blair said: it is not: it’s just taking a different form.
I was saying to a friend of mine today that even when my digital clock is showing eleven minutes past nine 9:11 I always think of that day 20 years ago and I still despair of what happened that day.
I always wondered if they planned to hit at precisely 9:11 as 911 is our emergency number just as 999 is yours.
Sorry, what I meant was the date, not the time.

I’ve never doubted that, sanmac.
The date in the English calendar is 11/9. I don't know whether Canada follows the US or UK in this respect.
The Americans seem to have a standard of placing the day before the month; however, here there doesn't seem to be a standard since I've noticed both day being first and also month first...Quite confusing. I think there should be a universal standard: year, month, day.
does anyone talk like that, sanmac, as opposed to writing it?

"2001 September 11" doesn't come naturally to the British tongue (probably not to Americans either). September the 11th or The 11th of September both sound normal but personally I'd always put the year last unless there was a very good reason not to.
Jno, my suggestion for the sequence year, month, day is strictly for the written recording of an event so as there can be no confusion.
"with brief footage of the attacks on 9/11"

Yes, we eagerly await the release of the actual captured, and confiscated, footage of the actual attacks as they happened... especially at the Pentagon.

"The war on terror which has been roundly condemned by many and which indeed had its own issues, appears largely to have been successful"

Black is now white, bizarro world time.
Despite what issues with government rested from it, it doesn't detract from the fact it was a breathtakingly awful event. I, like most, watched it unfold live and it just seemed so surreal. Too unbelievable to take in, until the pure amount of time that it went on made it undeniably true.
I have noticed a lot of American dramas airing the last few years (I was bored) mention the ongoing affects and suicide rates among servicemen there that day. Something not everyone would possibly consider. Too tragic for words.
I watched it on TV live with my son. Deeply shocked and horrified, I said to my son, ‘Today, the world has changed forever’. I was right. The evil that men do is written in blood.
i too watched it live and was absolutely astounded at what i witnessed.
i phoned Mr Em at his office and told him to turn on the news, he was like all of us horrified at the unfolding of this heinous act. I still haven't got over the fact that i once had dinner at the top of the WTC and that's it's no longer there. The repercussions are still being felt today
“ Black is now white, bizarro world time”

Well, you should know all about turning black white :-)
