In my opinion, only hanging murderers will make us safe from knife wielding thugs.
Two dead and two injured in Milton Keynes and one dead in Scarborough yesterday.
Hardly a day goes by without another stabbing murder.
Hanging the culprits would deter these scum.
What do you think?

I don't think hanging per se would be much of a deterrent but it would be an appropriate punishment & avenge the bereaved.
Have no problem with a death penalty but only if you can guarantee 100% accurate evidence. There are several people who got the death penalty and were later proved not guilty.

I'd rather they were given a life sentence with hard labour until such time as they die. Would also just have them incinerated onsite and ashes put in the dustbin.
Yes but with DNA evidence I would prefer to see murderers dead and free up some cell spaces.
Not sure you've thought this through Theland, not many would apply for a job where they forfeit their life on day one.

Nellie - I sincerely hope you and yours are never victims of violent crime, but we, who at the moment are safe, should hope for a maximum deterrent

Mamya - eh?

Executioner therefore is no more after his/her first job.
Never mind the deterrent. Administering swift execution as a punishment for murder, premeditated. Extenuating circumstances to be considered.
There's another commandment conveniently ignored, keep going Theland, you'll soon be one of us.
How do you decide who dies?
I agree. I am sick of hearing the hand wringing ,do-gooders telling us that in a civilised society we don't murder people in the name of justice. Well in my experience, since the social experiment has,in my opinion failed our so called utopian society it is time to reintroduce judicial punishment. There is very little civilised ,in my opinion, in this present age. Daily stabbings are just accepted which is proving the experiment has failed. We have come along way since we abolished Capital Punishment and DNA has discovered killers/murderers who died naturally before they ever faced justice( historic crimes).
I am sure nothing better to turn our heroic gang members blood turning to ice water is the prospect of climbing the gallows steps to the noose.
Perhaps their peers should be made to witness their hero wailing for mummy and wetting themselves before the trap is pulled. I reckon it might deter some of our 'wanna be drug dealing gangstas'.
I certainly don't recall the daily murder/stabbing rate anything like today when Capital Punishment existed.
Slack Alice makes the obvious and correct point. It has to be proven beyond doubt. 100% definite. The last thing we need is a new influx of James Hanrattys. Not the rope though. That is an act of barbarism that isn't worthy of the UK. Lethal injection is sufficient.
Is it just murder or is manslaughter included? What about rapists or child abusers? Do they die or not?
Nailit //One size does not fit all.// absolutely.
There are times when I would support the death penalty, especially for the likes of the Moors murders and the West's or anyone else who takes a child's life and it can be proved that they are definitely guilty,. I don't think it should be used for all murders though as each one would come with its own circumstances.
Question Author
Think of the lives it would save?

Mamya, executioners are agents of the courts doing the will of the people. No cruelty, a job, efficient.
//vulcan42There's another commandment conveniently ignored, keep going Theland, you'll soon be one of us.//

Well, that book does mention an eye for an eye as well.
Did James Hanratty get a pardon? I thought the guilty verdict remained.
Some people live life with obvious practical solutions to certain unpleasant realities. others in a sort of utopian should be, could be existence. The reality is you put down vermin, and the dross we have to try and avoid should be themselves voided.
Mozzz....and turn the other cheek. Full of contradictions.
Question Author
Mozzy, from cell door opening to trap being pulled is about 9 seconds, and death is instant.

Injection requires about 30 minutes of preparation with the culprit strapped to a gurney, terrified, now that is cruel.
