The problem is that those who practice such things believe that their culture / religion - call it what you will - somehow places them above the law of the land which they have chosen as their adoptive home because it affords them (almost) limitless freedom.

To answer VE, no of course it won't help prevent forced marriages, all that happened is the school leaving age has increased to 18. If you then increase the age one can marry to 18 you have in effect not stopped forced marriage just postponed them for two years.It will make naff all difference.
I'd still love you to tell me who 'they' are though, come on out with it brave boys, don't hint, show your true colours so to speak :/

To put it simply, if we disagree[i about the rights and wrongs of forced marriages, FGM etc. then we can discuss our differences on those issues.

Or, if we [i]agree] about the moral aspects, then we can get together to answer the question "How has a tribal custom like FGM become an issue in 21st century Britain? Where did that come from?"
