Did any of you see the BBC documentary on Grenfell a few days ago?

Beyond words. We saw a shattered community holding each other together in the glaring absence of any local or central government help. All religious communities working together with no hint of disdain or exclusion. The fire service, and later the police, doing what they could, devastated though they too were by what they were forced to deal with.

And anger. Hot, justifiable anger, at every aspect of a totally avoidable tragedy.

We should salute and respect this west London community.

bainbrig, this isn't about me - or at least it shouldn't be.
I did see the tube driver's tribute Spath, I also say some of the negativity it received elsewhere in the media.

Thank you for posting it though.
I don't see why Naomi should apologise. I didn't watch it, should I apologise too?

You have it right there JTH, as with most major catastrophes that are not nature related is is usually down to the perfect storm of errors.

The problem with this is it is difficult to 'learn lessons'. True we can prevent this particular event but probably not a similar one which has a different twist.
People seem to be so proud of being hard and harsh and telling the rest of us how silly we are and that they're the ones who understand how life really works, and are mature and grasp everything properly when actually it's obvious they just haven't a clue how to be a person.
The choice to watch or not is up to the individual, we also have our own opinions, slagging off people does not help anyone.
Now now kvalidir.

Thread is back on topic lets keep it that way.

Talk about strange bedfellows...

Youngmafbog is quite right. Simply salute and respect this poor shattered community.

Our petty divisions can be put aside for once in the face of such suffering.

Can't anyone give an answer to my post at 12.35?
Danny, I can't answer your query but given the make up of the programme, and the tone of the reviews I don't think it touched on that.

You could watch it on IPlayer.

danny: as your post at 1235 says "I did not watch the one on BBC. Did it by any chance mention how many offers of accommodation had been turned down?" and seems to be a very cheap jibe, totally uncalled for on a thread dedicated to saluting and respecting a community, I think people are ignoring it.
Just thought that someone would remember. The ITV version said how many were still homeless but did not say how many had turned down the offers. As I understand it everyone has now been offered accommodation
Bainbrig, I utterly resent your implication and invite you to withdraw it.It was not a jibe it was posted as a request for information following the ITV version mentioning how many people had not been accommodated.
// In this instance an apology isn't warranted.//

er you arent a councillor in west ken by any chance are you?
PeterPedant, take a step back dear. You've lost the plot again.
Question Author
Danny. Do you think our salute and respect for this community is more important, or providing ammunition for the “dreadful tragedy but watch out for the scroungers” brigade?
I was not suggesting that they are scroungers, but it is a well- known fact that some have refused offers of accommodation for various reasons.
// PeterPedant, take a step back dear. You've lost the plot again.// yes ma'am thank you ma'am

how many offers were turned down?
not mentioned in the prog.

I was struck at the difference. The Londoner were saying - no one cares for us - something must be done for us

Whereas in Manch - people just got down to it
( whilst the risk-averse emergency services (Kerslakes expression not mine) stood around and said - "you meant to be doing dat den - dangerous in dere den...")
- but people didnt lose their homes, they were just sort of dead ....
