I know Elina, I've just given mine! :-) I'm not horse racing fan and I think it should be banned, so I dont see it as a classy event at all. I can dress classy, I just need to find that suit I bought for a wedding many years ago and brush off the dog hairs, I certainly would not be wearing it to a horse race though! Silly nonsense!
But Naomi, they have dresses appropriately in their view, they clearly dont see the event as a "classy" event, they thought they dressed appropriately and fashionably. Surely as long as they are not exposing themselves, they are clean and tidy, what does it matter? As for their behaviour, we can only judge that from a few pictures, how many of them were evicted from the grounds or arrested. I think it is a very sad day when we need to conform to some kind of class structure to be seen as decent people!

I'm not sure I want to get involved here, but here goes! Is it my imagination but do we, as a nation, take great delight in decrying our own, with the press in the front? In other forums, other nationalities are quick to jump to the defence of their own citizens, especially the US who seem to be hyper sensitive, in this country we seem to revel in putting a small number on display then extrapolating from there.

Nobody. However, whilst I accept it is difficult to draw any firm conclusions from still photographs, if you look at the series of pictures it is plain from many of them that some of the young ladies have almost certainly partaken of a bit more than “a glass”. The description of the event somewhat confirms that: “The champagne flowed throughout the afternoon and brought the day to a tipsy climax”
A day at a prestigious race meeting (and the Epsom Derby week is almost as prestigious as it gets) is not just “a horse race”. It is a social occasion where decent standards of behaviour are usually expected. Furthermore this was billed as “Ladies’ Day” (though it is unclear whether this was in deference to the audience or that fact that The Oaks (open to fillies only) was the feature race of the day).
These pictures remind me of my day at Goodwood and to describe my experience as unpleasant is rather like saying the Greek finance crisis is a slight cash flow problem. Many social occasions are completely ruined for the majority by such boorish behaviour of a few and more’s the pity.
