Every time I turn my laptop on this pops up, are there any benefits in registering, it looks to me as if they only want to sell you stuff, but would it be better to do so? -rosy

If it is new or at least still in warranty then yes because if you should need to make any sort of claim they will have all the necesary details. As for selling you stuff just opt out of any e-mailings etc. (if the option is there) when you register.
I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't register your laptop. However if you'd rather simply disable those reminder prompts, here's how to do it:

Thank you both for replying,it is out of warranty but I will register it now, just wanted to check it was o.k. as it just began asking this a couple of weeks ago, don't know why they didn't ask before -thanks again -rosy
