No. He's an individual, not a representative of transgenders (if he is one). If a heterosexual people ever make fools of themselves, i don't think, "how embarrassing - they represent me!"

He doesn't represent the transgender or even the crossdressing community and I don't think that they will suffer because of some loon with a beard dressed as a mermaid. The issue with a lot of trans is to get them to reduce the slutty look in dress and make-up, which tends to get caked on.

The song wan't bad, though I preferred the Dutch one.

I'm confused. I saw the result on the BBC news and they referred to the winner as she/her. I know ABer's like to be politically correct, so are we saying the beeb had it wrong?

i think they are making far too much of it in the news and the fact that they are saying he is a bearded lady is incorrect he is a man in a frock !! i for one think its an awful look and yet again DM haS got on the bandwagon by transposing beards on to some famous women................ yuk

I don't know anything about what he\she is - transgender, drag act etc, but I don't think he did anyone a disservice.

I thought he looked a bit of a prat, but I think that about loads and loads of people - people with mullets, or people wearing shorts and socks with sandals for example.

The issues are being discussed as a result, so that's not a bad thing.

No, I don't think so. Perhaps if she'd flopped awfully on the night then yes, but she won, so seems that even the more unusual drag acts are accepted these days. Don't see it as damaging at all.

He's just a drag act with a difference. Nothing weird, wrong or damaging to anyone in that. I thought he looked really great and I thought he performed well too. It's only an issue of people make it one- so don't, and the problem goes away:)

I think it best someone admits to being who they are rather than tacitly pretending to be otherwise. It may look odd but that is becuase it is. If Conchita can show who he is then good, so should we all.

i am aware people will always think that way, but why does it only happen with 'minorities'?
i am not represented by every white female, that does something public or embarrassing, so why should anyone else be forced to take on that role?

The "she" was referring to "the character Conchita Wurst", not "the person Tom Neuwirth". Conchita Wurst is a female character, in many ways like Kenny Everett's Cupid Stunt. It wouldn't make sense to refer to her as a him.

The whole Eurovision thing's ridiculous anyway. It was supposed to be about the best song - hence the name - but nowadays it's just about who can give the silliest and campest performance. Then when you factor in all the political nonsense and game playing, it's beyond a joke. Even Wogan got fed up with taking the p1ss out of it.

I am aware of at least 3 transgender folk I see on a regular basis, 2 M-F, 1 F-M... they are all horrified at the Conchita portrayal. One attends my gym, she is very tall with a bass voice, but still looks more feminine than him.
