Apparently a nun in Italy has given birth to a baby. Can she now remain a nun or will she be defrocked? Or perhaps it will be passed off as a virgin birth and new saviour incarnate.

I think it might have been de frocking that got her in that state.
well you don't have to be a virgin to be a Nun. I think you have to be celibate though.
From what I read this morning I admired her for stating she didn't realise she was pregnant rather than saying she didn't know how it happened!
I've never understood why a "loving God" would want his/her devotees to be celibate.

Anyway, I understand that she is planning on keeping and raising the child herself, so that's a good thing.

Perhaps she was preggers before she actually became a nun in just thinking now, rather than out humping on her days off from nunning.

The Popes had kids - Borgia Pope had the Duke of Gandia and Lucrezia

It was on the BBC news site I think.
In the middle ages, naughty nuns were punished by having their shifts taken away for a year - or in very serious cases, two years. The shift was a big linen sort of underdress, and the habit itself was made of wool. The wool of those days could be very scratchy, so loss of a shift could result in great discomfort. And don't forget that the nuns used to sleep in their habits, so not even at night would they get a rest from the irritation of the wool against their skin.
These days, maybe a hairshirt would do the trick.
Francis, after the pope - says it all ;)

Good point...........
If she hangs on long enough, she can change to a Mother !
