Having experienced a magical Christmas day I am planning to provide a Dickensian based Christmas themed family event next year, does anyone know of good references to aid me - other than his Books!

I should imagine that your magical day today was very much based on the ideal Victorian Christmas.
Based on the real deal do you mean?

Food, parlour games, decorations (and just about everything you could need!) here:

Why don't you invite some people around for Xmas dinner that are all living in one room in B+B ?. Or living in a cardboard box in a shop doorway ?

Sounds pretty Dickensian to me !
Grassington, in Yorkshire, puts on a well-attended Dickensian Festival every Christmas. You might find something here: (the first website has an email address of the organiser)
