How do you steam open a letter and then re-seal it without anyone being able to tell what's gone on?

Thank you everyone. Unfortunately, or not depending on your point of view, I did not get time to break the law today and my plan was unceremonialy foiled. But thanks anyway!

Ask my wife. :)
how was it foiled?
It's a bit like being 'gummed' but shinier.

MargeB: My father walked in while the envelope addressed to him was in my hands... thankfully, he did not inquire as to why it was damp. So close, and yet so far.
Hi Dad, Fancy a cuppa? whoops! :-)
nice one landie, unfortunately for you you're on my wavelength...it did cross my mind ;-)

I have a tool made for taking letters out of envelopes unopened, believe me it is a relic from the war and so simple, better than kettling!

You cant. If the letter is addresed to someone else then pass it on...Or do you have an underhand reason to pry into someone elses mail?

Will: Twas my school report, addressed to my parents. A pretty reasonable reason to break the law, me thinks. Shame it failed...

mr piper

which war, exactly?

please send me a blueprint

To trilipse, this tool is a relic of world war two, it was part of an SOE spys kit. It is like a piece of bamboo cane but metal, 6mm wide 300mm long, split along its length, joined just at the handle, somewhat like a "rat tail file". You put the stem through the slight opening at the corner of the flap all the way through to the other opening opposite, putting the split rod on each side of the notepaper, squeeze the rod and turn it to roll up the letter around the rod then pull it out. That is my explanation please tell me if you follow it?
