Nativity Play Cancelled In Fear Of "offending" Muslims

just read in the news about a primary school cancelling their nativity play in case it offends the muslim students.

Am I missing something here or this the most unbelievable thing I ever heard?? Regardless of the fact that the child may have come from another country of their parents/grandparents have come from another country - they have still come from another country and if our customs and beliefs "offend" them I know where they should go!

Am I alone here?

Surely it's a positive thing that the event was postponed, as it implies that many of the absentees might have wished to partipate in the school event also, far from being offended by it.

I was also mighty puzzled for ages, having had the distinct impression Kurban Bayram was ages ago this year - mystery now solved :-)

Performers is the operative word there. I assume that means some of the performers wouldn’t have been able to perform because they would have been absent on the date in question. As an atheist who doesn’t ‘do’ political correctness and thinks it’s all a load of old tosh anyway, I agree in principle that a nativity play shouldn’t have been cancelled because Eid celebrations took precedence, as you appear to suggest, but in this instance I don’t think it was. It was simply a matter of bad planning by the organisers. In a multi-faith school, if the 'powers that be' intend respecting every religion, they need to keep a keener eye on the calendar.

I think this is ridiculous, so muslims should stop celebrating eid in fear of offending christians!!! This is getting out of control, and needs to be sorted. Everyone should be allowed to celebrate their religion in their own way. If muslim kids do not want to take part, then send them to spelling class, or reading or something else, but don't deprive kids that are included in christmas.

i think what some of us are saying is that in actual fact they probably DID want to take part (and indeed were scheduled to do so), but wouldn't have been able to as it clashed with their own festival. maybe reading and comprehension lessons are not only for primary school children :-)
