One of my friends was telling me last night that back in the day, his firm sponsored JS a very large sum for one of the marathons he was running. My friend was then a lowly employee and was told he would have to run the marathon with JS. He said he has never forgotten that day as JS cheated and was given a lift in a van for part of the marathon. When my friend pointed out this was cheating, JS told him that if he said anything then no one would believe him.

Surely someone whould have seen him get into the van?

I don't know the full ins and outs of it but even after all these years my friend is still indignant

If it had been an ordinary person then probably nobody would have noticed but surely a TV star would be watched by the spectators all the way round the course? And why ask for someone to run with you when you know you are going to cheat?

I did the Great North run some years ago and his 'bouncers' were pushing the normal runners out of the way to allow Jimmy clear route

Duncer remarked on a separate thread that he passed Jimmy Savile early on in the Glasgow half marathon a few years ago, then passed him again a few miles later as if he had taken a lift.
I make no comment on this - I only mention it as it may be of interest/relevance.
