“Life After Death.” Interviews of scores of people who were over 50 years of age revealed that “nearly three quarters (73 percent) agree with the statement ‘I believe in life after death.’” On the other hand, the magazine reported that nearly one quarter agreed with the statement “I believe that when I die, that’s the end.” But is that what people really want to believe?

'The beat generation...' ? That's going back a bit, surely?
To 'know' requires sufficient evidence.
Told you Mark. It gets worse as the day progresses.
It's at times like these that I most miss the consolation of the cooking sherry
I hope it's not the end, but until I die I won't know will I? My Grandma was very ill as a young woman and was at death's door and wasn't supposed to make it. She did thankfully, and often used to tell me about how she 'saw' her Mum (long dead) calling her across a beautiful blue river, but Grandma couldn't corss and said 'I can't mam, I can't cross'. If she had crossed, would she have died and gone to her beloved mam? Grandma died at 88 and she never deviated from this tale and thus wasn't afraid of dying.

And what about the wafers?
<<If she had crossed, would she have died and gone to her beloved mam? >>

Possibly. What we think about and what our unconscious mind believes to be true are directly related to our physiology.

Of course, death bed visions are not very credible as they occur when the body chemistry is pretty crazy especially if medication has also been administered.

Evidenced, Jesus said “Most truly I say to you, You are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate from the loaves and were satisfied. Work, not for the food that perishes, but for the food that remains for life everlasting.” (John 6:26, 27) Having just shared in the overabundant supply of food miraculously provided for the 5,000, they figured that following Jesus was an easy way to satisfy their selfish appetites. They gave no thought to the significance of the miracles the same today If they did’t believe then, they won’t believe today that why we have atheism as for told in the Bible.
i believe there is life after death.

they must be very old by now.
I'd have thought it rather easy to foretell that you can not fool everyone all of the time. Tends to be an accepted truth.

Not trying to fool any one,but If you want to fool Rather than denoting a person who is lacking in mental ability, the word “fool,” as used in the Bible, generally refers to an individual who spurns reason and follows a morally insensible course out of harmony with God’s righteous standards.
Well thats cleared everything up hasn't it !
Certainly has!
Addressing the question as put, 'Is It Really the End?' - Is it the end of what?
It is, I believe, definitely the end of the ego - you as a conscious, thinking, individual - but we live on in many other ways; through our children, if we are lucky enough to have them, and/or through the acts which we have performed throughout our lives.
Elderman - No one knows whether there is life after death. The facts, the truth, is not a popularity contest - just because a large majority believe such a statement says more about their fear of oblivion and wishful thinking than it does about any sort of truth.

The idea of life after death presupposes, for most people I think, the idea that somehow we all have a soul, which is an immaterial unique essence of the individual, which can live on forever, or be reborn. So, if you believe that , I suppose the idea of life after death shoudl come easily.

I would imagine most scientists would have a lot of problems with this view though. Intelligence, the uniqueness that is the individual look to be emergent properties of the brain, rather than a seperate entity animating the body. In these circumstances, you should look to have a positive experience whilst alive, rather than count on paradise or damnation after the corporeal body dies.

The idea that god has a monopoly on morality has been shown to be wrong. Indeed, much of what can be found in the bible could be considered to be extremely immoral behaviour, so the idea that someone who rejects your version of morality as being a fool because they are out of harmony with god is just laughable.

Man has no dependence upon god- god has a dependence upon man, desperately needing believers in order to survive. Watching true believers distort their worldview through the prism of their fervent belief in god is like watching a drug addict in denial of what their addiction causes them to do.

Oh, and Sandy - The resurrection is not a fact. Its a belief without evidence.
And no, you dont know that your redeemer lives - you have faith - belief in the absence of evidence.
Elderman is actually correct regarding scientists and gravity. Apparantly there is too much gravity in space for the amount of planets, debris etc etc, so scientists have invented something which they called 'black mass' as they could not come up with any other explanation for this gravity. Black mass cannot be measured, seen, felt or proven to exist by the way. Maybe a bit like God then?
No death is not the end. Well it is the end in an immediate way of the mentality of whatever died. The dead organism could continue in many ways, after all the consequences of the organism's activities do not cease, it's genes may have been propagated. The many parasitical and commensal organism that were part of it may have found new homes. About this time the saprophytes have a wonderful time, quite a party really. So, you see it is not the end it is a beginning and who knows what wonderful creatures you could become.
"Death is not the ending of life's brief candle. It is putting out the light because the dawn has come"

Johnny..he wasn't a saint when he said that.
