Problem with a 'hold' on current account funds (copied from Bus. and Fin.)

I need to find out who has put a HOLD on some funds. I stayed at an hotel last weekend. Total bill £145. This was paid by Nationwide Visa debit card on departure. On Weds. I noticed a 'hold' on funds of £145. Phoned hotel, they apologised and said they would contact their Merchant Services (Barclaycard). Today £103.10 was taken off 'HOLD' leaving £41.90 still HELD. (£41.90 is the exact amount of food and drink, £103.10 is exact amount of room rate) Hotel deny the £41.90 is anything to do with them and that I should contact my 'card supplier' I phoned Nationwide but they can't tell who has put the HOLD on. They say just wait a few days and the HOLD will disappear. How can I find for definite who has put this HOLD on my funds. It is causing me grief as DDs and SOs are due to go out and they won't as it stands.

so that's your answer? My funds are frozen as explained above.......
You said £41.90, your food and drink bill, was still on hold. You didn't say anything about any other funds you had in the bank. So yes, that was my answer!!!

What are you talking about? I said my DDs and SOs wont go out because of the HOLD that's been put on my account. If I had funds enough to cover this error and my DDs etc I probably wouldn't be too worried.....I really would like to know how I can definitely find out who put the hold on so I can go back to the Hotel with some evidence that it is their fault as they are denying all responsibility.
Have you tried getting in contact with the Visa side of things, rather than Nationwide? I got better results doing this when my RBS Visa card was stopped while abroad.
Your question is actually hard to understand. So you've paid for the hotel and the £145 went out of your account. Then they put a hold on another £145....like a duplicate payment?

Thanks for all your replies. The bill was settled in full at the time of departure as I said. Nothing remains owed. The HOLD has been left on the account in error. The hotel contacted their merchant services and removed all the Hold that they say they put on (the room part of the bill). They are saying that is all the HOLD that they put on. The reason for this question is how do I find out for definite who put the remaining Hold on the account. Yes. I know it's obviously the hotel as the remaining hold is exactly the cost of food and drink- £41.90 but they are denying it.. Just phoned VISA but their offices close at 17:00 If I could type quicker I might have got them!!
