I am due a counselling session at my docs today and the main thing I want to talk about is my partner. But he states he wants to come with me. Would that be allowed?

Tell him he can't..............whether it is allowed or not.

The thing is I actually would like him there. I'm not one to open up and if he heard things that hurt me then maybe he'd do things differently
I think him being there will not let you open up by the sounds of it
but if you cant talk to him directly, would you really be able to talk about him when hes next to you?
Ask him to let you attend the first couple of sessions on your own, and then if both of you wish him to come with you for later appointments tell him you are happy for that to happen.
I suggest you should maybe go alone for the first one and introduce your partner at a later date?
Aye, ask the counsellor at the first one, see if it is thought helpful or detrimental.
as it is you having counselling, id think only you will be seen. but why not let him accompany you to the appointment ?
I actually agree with the AB Ed (is that a bad sign?) go to the first appointment on your own and then decide if you want him to go with you to any further appointments.
