I cant say its totally reliable but:  cities

London

Birmingham

manchester

leeds

glasgow

edinburgh

bristol

liverpool

will all be in the top 20

Longest rivers:

Thames, Severn are the two longest

I've got, in order, London, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Sheffield, Bradford, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol
According to the Guinness Book of Answers 10 longest rivers in the UK are : Severn, Thames, Trent, Aire, Ouse, Wye, Tay, Nene, Clyde, and Spey. This info is taken from the 1989 edition but I don't suppose the length of the rivers will have changed that much.

Anything below 10 on the population list may well depend on definition of boundaries e.g. on a list I found the next three were Kirklees, Fife and Wirral! On another list of city/town population the next 10 are Wakefield, Cardiff, Dudley, Wigan, Coventry, Belfast, Leicester, Sunderland, Sandwell and Doncaster. Not necessarily all cities of course... I'm not sure there will be a definitive list.

For 20 largest cities by size of population go to www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/top_ten_uk.asp
