G.B, or not GB ?

     GB ....... Great  Britain, was the  sticker  seen on most of our vehicles  at one time, but now it seems as though the word ' GREAT ' has been taken away, by whom ? is it now officially  just BRITAIN ?  Was it made a LAW to erease GREAT ? apart from them Euro car stickers , which i personally don't like, what now is the sticker/name./number/label  that we Brits can put on our car ?  coming from Wales, we do have the WELSH dragon badges, WALES, etc,... dont know about what the  Scottish have ?... so  ANSWERS please, WHO  decided that BRITAIN wasnt  GREAT  ( GB ) anymore ?

It has always been Great Britain, and has never been reduced to being merely "Britain".

the only sticker ive seen with B on it is for belgium.GB is still used.

   sorry Bernardo, i honestly believe that the word ' GREAT  has been removed from in front of BRITAIN, not officially perhaps, Westminister live.. or Primeministers question time.... how many, does any,of the M.P.'s now refer it as Great Britain anymore ?  .... and Sludge ,if  uk  equels gb, and gb disappears, could i put uk on my car ?... uk... or UCK ???

I imagined that our country is called "Great Britain" as it was once "great" in terms of owning many colonies and heavily influencing everything that went on in the world. With the demise of the Empire the word "great" has been left off more and more often, as it's a bit egotistical and arrogant. I'm sure it didn't seem great to former oppressed colonies who fought for their independence for years...likewise to the innocent Iraqi citizens that our government has condoned the bombing of.

Officially though, we're Great Britain.

The term "Great", as in Great Britain, is not as is commonly believed anything to do with "greatness". It is merely a description of the largest of the British Isles.

The British Isles include the whole of the island of Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands. Only part of the island of Ireland is in the United Kingdom. Neither the Isle of Man nor any of the Channel Islands is part of the U.K.

It is as incorrect to refer to Britain and the U.K. as being one and the same as it is to designate to Ireland as the same thing as the Irish Republic. In each case the terms are almost accurate, but not quite!

I believe that the 'Great' bit was taken out of 'Great Britain' roughly at the same time that Scotland devolved.
