These islands were originally "discovered" by the Spanish, who called it after their king, Filipe II (in English, King Philip). About 100 years ago, they passed into American hands, not becoming independent until after WWII. The Spanish call the islands the Islas Filipinas; but presumably the name was changed to the English version, the Philippines, by the Americans, and this is the official name of the nation. But the people are still called Filipinos (the men) and Filipinas (the women).
It's simple. F everyone from the Phillipines. Hence, Fillapino's.
