Can you tell me who recorded this as I grew up in the 70's and we had it on 7", with a black and white photo on the cover, but it must be a 50's/ 60's production.
thanks

I see that Bernard Miles recorded it, probably as a monologue (I don't think it was a song, but I might be wrong). Try seaching Google for the Pedlar of Swaffham ( the English spelling) - quite a lot comes up.
There are CDs of Bernard Miles's classic monologues and tales, including the Pedlar of Swaffham, currently for sale on ebay and Amazon. There is a photo, apparently black and white, of Bernard Miles on the cover.
never heard of it and I live there. Is there really a song?

Yes it's Bernard Miles! I wonder if it's available on iTunes, I know Ivor Cutler is... I'll check later.

4get - it's spoken word, your link is right, but we only had the Peddler

thanks

Bill
so is it just the story of the pedlar?
Question Author
yep, it's an old Engllish folk tale, if I remember right.
