What's wrong with "pound sterling symbol" or "pound sterling sign"?
Question Author
Nothing wrong, but there is a technical word for it and that is what I am after.
I have a feeling it stand for 'livre' - does that ring any bells?
This was in the paper this week, and though it is for Libri (pounds in Latin) it is really a letter L and is only called a pound sign as it was never used for anything else.
