If a 15 year old wanted to get into forensics/csi when he left school and has to do a work experience at school,is there any way/thing he could do for it in this area of forensics?

depending where he lives, and what they have locally, he could try the firebrigade investifation dept, rather than the police, but it would be quite difficult to be involved in at his age for just one week.
Unfortunately in our area work experience places were very limited with regards to chosen vocations...health & safety regulations have made it near on impossible to find anywhere for work experience ~ most of the 15 year olds in our area ended up spending a week assisting teachers at the local schools!
electricblue- in a word, no, there is nothing a fifteen year old could learn in a week of work experience in forensics, and tell this person that it is not all glamour and macho like you see on CSI, it's quite disturbing.

I will tellit like it is, my sister in law does forensics and she said to me once:

"you try going home and getting some sleep when you have just had to perform a post mortem on a 16 year old girl that has been sexually abused and beaten to death by one sick individual who is still on the loose"

Thnx all but chimney,he is under NO illusion about what it entails,he knows it is nothing like the tv,he is wise beyond his years, believe me,the tv has not encouraged this,he wanted this long ago, think he's only watched csi once anyway,he's more into documentaries on the subject, gruesome or not,he's interested,,thnx all!xx
I did have another thought, what about contacting a local Univwersity to ask if they have a student doing forensics who would like a buddy for a week? I have known this to happen and it may just inspire him.
I'm not sure he'd be allowed in any of the services (police, fire etc.) being that young - they might accept him, but he'd end up with office work and tea-making probably. As Dot says, is there maybe a university laboratory he could go to, or local private laboratories or chemical-type firms? A quick search on the net showed a few private companies which do computer-based forensics work, so maybe try one of those if they're local to you?
