Hi - going to Amsterdam for a few days next week. Aim to spend 2 days in the city BUT also looking for somewhere to go to for another day. Ideally somewhere that is reachable by coach or train but worth visiting while we are over there.
Cheers for all suggestions!

A little village called Vollendam, just a few miles outside Amsterdam, and reachable by coach. The village is populated by members of a religious sect, most of whom wear old Puritan-style dress, and cling to the old ways - A word of warning - they don't like to be photographed. However, when we were there, one resident was happy to open up his home to visitors and showed us round. It was like stepping back two centuries. Absolutely fascinating, and well worth a visit.
Hope you enjoy
The Hague and Haarlem are both pretty towns. Most places in the country are easily reachable - it's small and has good trains.
Utrecht is a pleasant city. There are 4 trains per hour from Amsterdam and the journey time is only about half an hour.

If the weather's good, consider a day at the seaside. Zandvoort is easily accessible and is well known for the quality of its restaurants. There are frequent trains from Amsterdam, either direct or by changing at Haarlem. The journey time is about 30 minutes.

For a more adventurous journey, there's a good train service to Brussels. e.g. the 0823 service, ex Amsterdam Centraal, arrives at Bruxelles-Midi, at 1114.

If the weather is good and you fancy a chill out there is a place called Scheveningen in the Hague, about 40 mins from Amsterdam. It has a beach, a boulevard, a casino, a shopping mall and bars, cafes and restaurants some open really late.
Madurodam in Den Haag is well worth a visit.Wonderful model village.
Scheveningen is very nice ..Kinderdijk is well worth a visit, lots of windmills and the Keukenhoff ..although that is at it's best in the spring.
Holland is not a big country and most touristy places are easily accessible for a day trip from Amsterdam.Delft for pottery and canals and Gouda for the Cheese Market .
Rotterdam is not far and you can tour one of the biggest harbours in the world or feel sick up the Euromast or shop until you drop in the Koopgoot.
