Question Author
thank you :)
Actually, it's not. Berkshire doesn't exist anymore. Its been replaced by various Unitary Authorities. Reading is a Unitary Authority
Question Author
um, okay thanks,.
That is not quite right. On 1 April 1998 the Berkshire County Council was abolished and the county districts divided into;
West Berkshire (Unitary)
Reading (Unitary)
Wokingham (Unitary)
Bracknell Forest (Unitary)
Windsor and Maidenhead (Unitary)
Slough (Unitary)
The non-metropolitan Royal County of Berkshire was not abolished.
No wonder people get confused, Why do they do this ? If anybody had asked me I would have said the same as gaba.
Berkshires a good enough answer for me immi.
The burkes in berks are barking up the wrong tree.
Keep it simple for heavens sake,beaurocracy gone mad e.t.c.
Yes, if I were addressing a letter I'd put 'Reading, Berks', whatever the political rearrangements.
